It is possible for a human to become a troll. Indeed, this is how the first trolls were created. Did you think they were born from the mating of rocks?
To become a troll, you must have a heart black with hatred and a desire for revenge. You must find a deep cave in an ancient mountain. A hole in a hill will not suffice! Those hill trolls are merely degenerate descendants of the earliest mountain trolls; they are near-sighted, stupid creatures undeserving of the name "troll".
After you find a suitable cave, you must enter it without bringing any light. Even the cold light of a single glowworm or a spark from flint striking steel will cause you to fail. Feel your way into the cave. You need not reach the end, but you must be deep inside the mountain.
Sit with your back against the wall of the cave, then pierce your heart with an iron or copper dagger. This method of death is not necessary, but it the most effective. As you die, you must remember the faces of your enemies. Curse them for all the wrongs they did you. If your will is strong, your spirit will flow into the rocks and you will become a troll - a creature of living stone. If you fail, then you will have died a pointless death.
If you succeed, you will lose most of your memories but your memories of your enemies will remain. You will emerge from the cave and hunt them down. If you manage to find and kill your enemies, your remaining memories of your past life will vanish. You will become a savage but intelligent carnivorous beast that preys on any living creature it finds. You will lack malice or kindness; your actions will be the actions of an animal - only caring about your own survival.
