"Carly!" Jake called out to her as she dove from the cliff. She nearly turned to run to him, she would've and her heart nearly broke again as she ignored him, but the icy cold fingers holding her hand gave a tug reminded her again of the reason she was there. The reason why she quit being the good girl. What did Jake know? He had a perfect life...she wasn't going to ruin it for him. She was part of a different world now. One that had no place for the Jakes in the world.
Her new friend, Van, smiled beside her, painfully beautiful Van, tall dark mysterious Van. He looked absolutely demonic as the wind howled around him completely home in free fall. He gave a big whoop wrapping her in a bear hug as they spiraled down, crashing into the merciless ocean waves. The mere impact nearly knocked the breath from her, not to mention the freezing cold. It was frighteningly exhilarating. He released her and they both struck out powerfully to the surface. They broke through laughing and shaking. Waves pummeled them as the floated there. She looked up at the sparkling sun a big smile of complete freedom plastered on her face, however it fell as she saw the look on Jake's face, the hurt, the confusion. "Jake." She whispered.
