Hello there~! I haven't written a journal entry in the longest time...like last year in July over the summer? BUT last Saturday on February 9...
I went to a DRAMA COMPETITION!! OH YEAH, it was so much fun (kind of)!! xd I performed a monologue and scene for the event. mrgreen Hm...my monologue was called Invisible Friends by Alan Ayckbourn. Yeah, it's basically about this lonely girl whose family is too busy to pay attention to her so she talks to her invinsible friend. 3nodding
The judges in the morning session were only for giving feedback, and I think I did pretty good! They said that I had good motivation for my character to take different positions, my voice had different tones, and I made good eye contact. whee Their feedback really lifted my spirits! The only thing they advised was that I enunciate (pronounce) words more clearly. mrgreen
NOW for my scene... I performed that one scene from Alice in Wonderland with Alice and the Caterpillar by Lewis Caroll~! I performed it with my friend Gabby which was fun! I felt so proud when the judges said we had the best introductions! n_n
After the morning sessions were done, everyone headed for lunch! I chose a turkey sandwhich, apple slices, a cookie, and a berry blast Capri Sun. =] It was all good! Then the afternoon sessions came which was when the REAL judging would take place.
During my monologue session, one of my friends, Amy, did this one monologue The Witches by Roald Dahl! She was really good at having this accent and she scared the people in the room (in a good way) with her performance!
Then there was another girl who was supposed to be telling a story about how this one guy came to her school and started gunning down people. Her voice sounded like it really had emotion... but I wasn't wearing my glasses so I couldn't see (and feel the moment). xd
Now for my scene session... it wasn't as exciting as the monologues sadly. ; - ; Two groups forgot their lines and they started whispering to eachother! I mean...you should NEVER do that! My drama teacher said, "When things get bad and you guys can't remember your lines, just end it and say thank you."
Her quote was true for those two groups who forgot their lines. Their scenes eventually got too long and became boring. gonk
After the judging was over, it was time for a workshop that didn't start until like...half an hour. So I headed to the gym where I saw my class and we were trying to make a up a spirit dance to win the spirit award! Ok, see the festivel people would award a spirit award to the most spirited school who was polite to everyone, picked up trash, and always courteous! mrgreen
Unfortunately, I found out afterwards that the award was discontinued. So disappointing...I picked up that full Capri Sun off the ground for no reason now (just kidding, it was a good cause)! x]
Anyway, for our dance, we tried doing Soulja Boy and some other stuff. xd The workshop soon came and I had some fun! There was stuff like "Knight and Horse" where you partner up with someone and you guys piggyback around the gym. whee
Pretty soon, the award ceremony came and I was really hoping to get a gold medal... BUT I got two silver medals instead. n_n I'm actually quite happy with my medals! Silver for my monologue, and silver for my scene.
It was a really good experience and I just had a great time performing and watching others!! mrgreen I think I might take a drama summer camp session over the break. 4laugh Well, this concludes my very long journal entry and I thank you if you managed to read this far! mrgreen Hope you enjoyed reading~!
