THE BIRTH OF A TRANSFAN!Hello fellow Transfans. Even if your not a fan, I hope you are interested in reading about the wonderful and exciting life I live hunting down and collecting Transformers (Yeah, right xp )! Since this is my first post, I might as well start at the begining.
My whole collecting quest started when I was in my freshman year in high school. Already considering myself as an outcast from the popular crowd, I found refuge in movies, reading, watching television, playing video games, and walking the local malls. One day, I walked into my local comic book store called "Adventure Planet" looking for the latest issue of Spawn and X-Men. The place was always seemed to be in disorder when new shipments came in. Mark, the owner at the time, used to buy just about anything from anyone that would sell to him. This inclued a lot of vintage toys from the 1980's such as G.I. Joes, Thunder Cats, M.A.S.K., and a certain line of "Robots in Disguise". mrgreen They were all in large display cases while various other packaged figures hung on hooks that filled up almost half of the store. Sometimes I thought that there were more figures then comics in the store if not for the shelves of back issues.
I have seen the large display cases of Transformers many times before, but the thing that caught my eye was a Generation 2 Bumblebee. It was a shining gold color and I thought it would be neat to have and wouldn't cost too much given it's small size. Well, I bought it and pretty much the rest is history. I found myself going back to Adventure Planet every week spending what little allowance I had to get another one. Soon enough, Mark was giving me special deals since I have become such a faithful and repeat customer to him. My knowledge of Transformers became so great, sometimes Mark would ask me to help identify and organize any new Transformers he might have aquired in exchange for allowing me to have any of my choosing (for a discounted price, of course wink ).
I became obsessed, I would buy toys, PVCs, statues, guide books, comics, old VHS movies, DVDs, Japanese exclusives, and just about anything Transformer related. I would spend hours online looking for new Transformer related information as I reaquainted myself with these 80s icons as if I were reaquainting myself with an old friend.
As the years past by, the collection grew and grew. Friends would come over my place and marvel at the sight and size of the Transformers collection. Many of them pointing out one or two that they themselves owned as a child. Others figured that I must have spent a fortune in my obessive hobby. For this reason, I have attempted to record and catalog my collection for insurance purposes. I still haven't listed everything I owned but here is what I've come up with so far:
