The Singing Assassin
Part 1


Siren, today, is a stone cold killer. She never intended to be one though. In her years as a child she was raised in a beautiful log home in the deep, deep woods of South Dakota. Back then she was called Sierra. Sierra loved to sing, in fact she had the most beautiful voice in the world, the kind that could make birds sing along. She could sing anything with perfect harmony. Blues, Rock, Pop, you name it and she will sing it. Her parents loved to exploit Sierras talent. They would put her up in contests, recitals, even musicals though Sierra never asked to be.
The success didn't last long though. During one hot summer, Sierra was outside playing (climbing trees to be precise) when she cut the corner of her mouth on a tree branch. It was just a little scratch and when Sierras parents looked at it they thought nothing of it, but as time went by Sierra not only noticed that the cut was infected but that it was spreading through her lower lip. Her parents rushed her to the hospital. The doctors examining Sierra found the infection on her lip was a flesh eating virus, they would have to remove Sierras bottom lip from the jaw line to the top of the chin in order to keep the virus from spreading. Sierra came out of the operation with success but with a life changing price.
Sierra woke in the hospital room tired and dazed, when she finally remembered where she was she rushed to the bathroom to look in the mirror. She saw nothing but horror before her, her bottom jaw was almost completely exposed the only thing that was left was the skin that covered her chin and bottom jaw. When the nurses heard her screams they ran in to try and comfort her. "It's all right child" they said "You're lucky you're alive, you're lucky you didn't lose anything else". But despite their best efforts Sierra continued to cry, then started singing a sad song. When she sang she noticed something wonderful…HER VOICE REMAINED THE SAME!!! She still sung as beautiful as before and this made her cry again but only for joy. She didn't care about what she looked like anymore she was just so happy she could still sing. Sierras parents gave out the same reactions as well, first the screams of horror then the tears of happiness.
Sierras parents still made her sing but when she went out onstage they made her wear a scarf over her mouth so people couldn't see what she looked like. Sierra wasn't particularly proud of the fact that she had to wear the scarf but she understood why. She still got the applause of the audience with her singing but as performances went by the more people were curious about the young girls face and what it looked like. One of Sierras classmates was especially curious. Janet was her name and she hated Sierra…more then anybody knew. Janet was always really jealous of Sierras singing talent and the removal of Sierras scarf might make Janet the most popular kid in school again. So at one of Sierras recitals Sierra sang one of her favorite operas. After she was done people were in shock and awe at the fact that this small child could reach so many ranges. The astonishment stopped when Janet ran up to the stage and pulled Sierras scarf down. The audience was quiet for a moment as they looked at the monster before them. Then one woman screamed followed by Sierras closest friends laughter. Her classmates started throwing things at her and Sierra left the stage crying. She promised herself to never sing in public again.
Katherine (Sierras little sister) became the new child star of the family. Katherine was also a very good singer but could never match up to Sierras talent. Her parents didn't care. After Sierras opera massacre they saw her as a giant disappointment. Sierra decided to concentrate on her schooling. She still went to public school but still wore her scarf (now out of her own free will). She spent many years teased and pushed around by her classmates and even teachers but still made good grades. She liked school despite the fact that she was teased, but she preferred it rather then going home where her parents would ridicule and lock her in her room like an animal in a cage.
When Katherine turned 14 (Sierra being 16) she got a record deal in California. So their parents decided to take Katherine to help pursue her "dream" in California. They left in the middle of winter. They said they would be back in a week...
2 months passed by and Sierra was starving. Sierra couldn't leave the house for her family took the only car they had. She lived off of the food in the house for the past months and there was now nothing left. There were no calls and Sierra was quite sure that her family had abandoned her. Worst out of all in the middle of those months the electricity went out. She couldn't call help and she couldn't gain heat. She was miles away from civilization so she decided to leave the house and find help. As she walked out into the painfully cold snow she looked back at her home thinking, almost knowing, she will never see it again. Thus the journey for help became the beginning of Sierras assassin training.
