The Loss of a Friend
As we walked home from school,
Little did I know,
The highway is not safe,
The cars do not go slow.
"Why take the long way?"
I said to my friend with a smile.
"Walking across a highway
Is better than walking a mile."
Then it happened like a flash,
All that I know,
A truck was heading towards me,
I had no place to go.
I felt a quick jolt
And I was sliding across the street.
But my friend was lying dead,
Blood from her head to her feet.
The world turned into pixels.
I awoke in a white bed.
Sadness and anger was all I thought of,
Images of the past filled my head.
My friend had lost her life,
I had lost only blood and skin.
She gave her life for me.
I feel that I have done a great sin.
Every day when I walk home,
I think about that day,
About the "easy" shortcut,
And the price I had to pay.
