“You really care for those kids don’t you?” He’d propped himself up on the pillows but otherwise still lounged in my bed. He wasn’t wearing a stitch either.
“I didn’t think I’d made it that obvious,” I answered hovering indecisively.
He settled, making himself more comfortable and answered, “Oh yes, it’s noticeable. No one fights a Compulsion with that kind of bloody minded stubbornness unless they care.” His tone was surprise touched with puzzlement, “In fact no one has been able to fight a Compulsion, or even wanted too in a very long time.” He glanced admiringly at my half open dressing gown. I noticed where his eyes were looking and reached to snatch it closed.
“No. Leave it,” he said but I snatched it closed anyway.
“It’s funny,” He said.
“What is?” I asked fighting, stalling NOT to go in.
“Your reaction was much more possessive than an elder sister. It was ‘mother in search of cubs’.”
“Old habits… We’ve been through a lot.” I added proudly, “They’re my girls.”
“And you are MINE!”
“So you say!” I countered, “And it might just be true. But can you explain any of yesterday’s (It was yesterday wasn’t it? He nodded.) events so that they make sense to someone whose sense of reality hasn’t been suspended over however long. What the hell is a Gate Lord, why can you mess with my head, what the seven hells is going on!”
“I’m a Gate Lord and your master!” he answered swiftly.
I sighed and leaned against the door post, “Curse it all, that tells me exactly nothing. Still, so much for this being some horrible nightmare. I’m not that lucky.”
“No. No nightmare,” Ger smiled.
“Damn,” I swore. That same invisible something, like what I’d experienced in my dream/not dream still pulled and tugged at me.
“Come, sit down,” he invited, patting my bed encouragingly. The pull got stronger.
“Is… is that you?” I asked, swaying a little, keeping as far from him as I could while still obeying his instruction.
Ger raised an eyebrow in question.
“That unceasing pull inside of me, like a silent call?”
“Yes, indeed,” he smirked.
“Could you not do that,” I asked. “It makes me want to bop you one and look what happened the last time I did that.”
He laughed.
