Shortsighted views bring the words to my lips
The golden rule means that no one will survive
I cannot protest, for I think it exists
When the tutor of drones wants the throne of the hive
Can you cry for someone that you’ve never met?
$2 a day if you get out alive
Any names unimportant, you’ll most likely forget
Do the dead have honor, do the honored ever die?
Mixolydian scales and movie themes
4 letters, 6 numbers that help me revive
Because I thought I had let go of my dreams
I will always be one, of the three, of the five
a hypocrite’s logic, a point has been missed
A hello writ in ice and sealed with a kiss
Woot, that was a good one. Let me explain the above. It is a poem about my life, specifically a sonnet with a nontraditional abab cbcb dbdb aa rhyming scheme. I love it.
First stanza- I don't like ignorant people spouting hatred. I believe that the nature of man is such that there will never be a time when everyone follows the golden rule, which means even in ideal society, the rule will be broken, chaos, etc. The tutor refers to Socrates, whose ideal government would have an enlightened philosopher as the ruler. He was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth (here refered to as drones, male honey bees that are basically defenseless) , however if such a person could be found I would support said system. That took a while to explain, but that’s only the summary of the first stanza. We continue.
Second Stanza- Basically recounting an experience I had at a graveyard of an 1860’s mining town last summer. $2 refers to the wages of miners, many of whom died. I prayed, I never knew these people, I don’t have to feel the pain their family went through, that they went through trapped alone and dying far from home. I looked like an idiot talking to headstones, I prayed, I made a friend cry just by telling her what I was thinking about. It was an awesome day.
Third Stanza- Refers to my current music and school endeavors, and how I no longer feel the need to separate myself from my siblings, its just who I am.
Couplet- 1st line says I’m a hypocrite, and that you probably don’t get anything that was said above(if you actually read this than now you do) 2nd line is optimistic pessimism, every ending holds a new beginning.
Happy End wink
