Smash the Mirror~ Chapter 1: Opening Title [unfinished]
Kit walked out of her ’96 green ford contour and sighed as she saw the bland colorless building, finally heading toward it, trying to be invisible. Her red hair unfortunately was not exactly common in the city. Jen, her younger sister had suggested that Kit should dye her hair blonde, but Kit always disregarded her with the expression “dumb blonde.”
The deep blue caress of Kit’s eyes against her hair was also stunning, the way she just seemed to pop out among many passer-bys. It’s hard to become elusive with a thin, curvy body, bright red hair, and striking blue eyes. Admittedly, she wasn’t drop dead gorgeous but she certainly wasn’t easy to forget either.
Her Vera Wang boots clacked along cement sidewalks lining metallic buildings humming with the same drone of OCD corporate workers, boiling in the glinting oven.
It must get hot in there…thought Kit. Theoretically you could open the windows for a breeze, but nobody ever seemed to open them, as if they WANTED to have a heat stroke.
“Well if I worked there, I would want to die too.”
Another low sigh from the exhaustion of the drab of daily life escaped Kit’s pink glossy lips into the outside world, where it withered and died like everyone else’s. Granted, fighting demons and the undead was not a common job, and most people believed it to be of heart-stopping thrills, full of adventure; worth the pay. Kit scoffed at those people. Sure, she would agree that it was heart-stopping, but who gets a kick out of dying? Fear clutched Kit’s stomach ever night, but unlike any roller coaster ride she knew she wasn’t safe.
During the afternoon, however, Kit was bored beyond tears. Clients with loads of money at their disposal, trying to reach old enemies, just to laugh in their face.
“Sick,” Kit groaned at the idea.
Of course there were the grievers; a relative who died suddenly without goodbye, or queries for the suicides.
And then there were the police. They always assumed her to be a coroner, but that’s another job entirely. Kit could tell if something unnatural had been the suspect or victim, but when it came to time of death, she had no clue.
