Nanny’s Story
Grenadine Lombardo came from a fairly typical Seattle Sprawl troll family. Her mother and father were both trolls, and so were her dozen or so assorted brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and others who lived in their tiny house. Space would have been a problem if it weren’t for almost everybody being away at once, which left Grenadine, the youngest, home by herself much of the time. The rest of her family fit the troll stereotype perfectly, meaning that the house was always filthy and cluttered- Grenadine quickly developed housekeeping skills that eventually got her hired by a small local corporation to do their janitorial work (it seems that one of Grenadine’s brothers had been mocking her behind her back with his corporate buddies, but the boss thought she sounded fantastic). She made nearly nothing, but that was still more than could be said for the rest of her family.
Eventually the corporation bought drones that could do Grenadine’s job for free around the clock. Grenadine, being the unusually smart troll she is, thought fast and offered her services as a drone rigger, since that way she could keep her job and the drones could be more efficient. That was her reasoning, anyway, and the boss thought it was just fine. So fine, in fact, that he gave her a substantial raise to account for the expertise required to be a drone rigger.
So went Grenadine’s life for several months. She worked during the day and spent most of her nights at cheap hotels, avoiding home as much as possible so that her deadbeat family wouldn’t try to take her hard-earned nuyen from her. The corporation eventually hired itself a security rigger (and semi-jokingly forbade Grenadine from taking on that job as well because they were already paying her more than they wanted to), a troll named Donald Chasing Clouds- Grenadine called him Donnie. Grenadine and Donnie got to know each other very well and liked each other very much. As it happened, Donnie was a friend of one of Grenadine’s brothers, who found out from Donnie that Grenadine worked for the corporation and came to see her one day. She caught him trying to steal some of her spare drone parts, and while she was debating how to deal with the situation Donnie did his job and sounded the alarm. Grenadine’s brother was gunned down by the guards before she or Donnie could stop them. The family blamed Grenadine and Donnie for her brother’s death, and tried to take revenge. The two fled deeper and deeper into the Sprawl, eventually escaping Grenadine’s family and marrying. They claimed a house and settled down, becoming Fixers to pay the bills.
The Chasing Clouds met a shadowrunner called Sharky. Sharky was in the market for a private Fixer- or two –and had no idea how to keep house. Conveniently, Grenadine and Donnie were Fixers now, and Mrs. Chasing Clouds knew how to run a household…
As a Shadowrunner
Aside from being one of the team’s personal Fixers, Grenadine takes care of the house and the people who live there, which earned her the working name Nanny. She and her husband act like parents to the other shadowrunners they work with, giving advice and tending to wounds. Although most of Nanny’s duties involve cooking, cleaning, and home repair, she also keeps a number of combat drones on hand for when she is needed on a run. Usually this means Nanny sits at a safe distance and directs her drones while another member of the team stays with her to make sure she doesn’t get geeked.
Being a Fixer, Nanny is also a font of information on the underworld. She knows the location of every safehouse in the area and can tell you which gang or crime syndicate runs every neighborhood and where their money comes from. This is due in no small part to her connections with her old corporation’s Johnson, who passes along jobs for the team through Nanny and Kitch.
Nanny rarely comes along on runs, but one of her drones is almost always along with the team—just in case.
