Ellie cracked her eyes sleepily as the soft pre-dawn light filtered lazily through her giant window that dominated the entire wall opposite of Ellie's huge bed. The light had woken her up gently, so she was not fully awake yet. It's soft comforting presence dominated the atmosphere of the room, making it difficult for her to bring herself to climb out of her warm bed. Her body screamed, I don't want to get up, but Ellie's wings were itching to get out from underneath her body.
In her sleep Ellie had apparently decided that she was a real butterfly, for she awoke completely wrapped into a cocoon using only her comforter and sheets. It made her hot and sweaty and her hair clung to her face, while her pillows seemed to attempt to suffocate her. She could barely see and her head had sunken beneath the line of her pillows. She swung her head violently in a furtive attempt to get them off. Awkwardly trying to free herself from her sheets, Ellie tumbled off the bed with a loud thump, one of which that was probably heard throughout the whole mansion. Great, she thought. Just great. I might as well get back in bed now. a strangled chuckle escaped from her throat.
Sighing, Ellie rolled about the floor, the blankets still thoroughly wrapped around her person, and when she finally broke free she was lying on the cold floor feeling like a complete idiot with a blush placed gently across her delicate features. The heat warmed her and the contrast of it and the floor sent shivers down her spine. She groaned as she got up, scooped her blankets into a ball, and threw them on the bed with a few muttered word of thanks to her stupid restless sleeping habits. She stood back, looking at her slightly messy room, and her definitely messy bed. Squinting into the seemingly too bright sunlight, she looked out the window. The sun had risen quickly and it made Ellie wonder how long she had rolled about the floor like a complete idiot.
Her wings perked up happily, enjoying the lovely morning. Small puffy clouds chugged their way across the deep blue sky, and the grass was waving gently in the breeze that powered the clouds silly quest across the blue expanse that seemed to stretch endlessly across Ellie's limited vision. The bright spring flowers seemed to intensify the beauty, and Ellie's lips curved upward without her even realizing it. Even Ellie had to admit that this morning was most definitely one of the most beautiful mornings she had ever witnessed in her 17 years of life. Her mood increased so much so that she forgot her embarrassing mishap, though it occurred only seconds ago. She threw on a black spaghetti strapped undershirt over her bra, well at least she attempted to. Her wings would not settle down and fold against her back so she got fed up and put it on by hooking her legs through the top, then tugging it along her whole body until she looped her arms through the straps and finally had it in the right place. She carefully brought her wings through the large slits in the back of her undershirt. When finished, she stretched them out happily. Ellie always kept her wings hidden beneath her shirt and jacket, but she preferred to keep herself as comfortable as possible when in bare essentials. All of her undershirts had slits in the back.
Ellie practically skipped down the hall. With a breathless "Oops," she stopped and turned around, almost forgetting to tidy herself in the bathroom. She brushed her teeth trying to rid her mouth of that pungent taste known morning breath, and combed her mangled hair into a messy half-bun, pinning it with her favorite flower clip. She washed her sweaty face, reveling the sensation of cool water against her sticky skin, and dried it with a fluffy white towel. Her large azure blue eyes stared into the mirror seeing a pair of large half-translucent, red-rimmed butterfly wings perking up along her spine with her light brown hair flowing down her back following along the line of her wings, and every time her wings jittered her hair flew upward. Luckily, she was supposed to have that messy look, so she ignored it instead of trying to get her wings to behave. Even now, months after she received them through that painful process, she was still amazed by her wings beauty. They stretched upward beyond her reach, and whenever she tried to touch the top, or even the sides for that matter, she spun around in circles like a dog chasing its tail.
Leaving the bathroom, Ellie continued down the hall until the sweet aroma of syrup met her hungry stomach. Her sweet tooth was almost nothing before, but ever since Ellie got her wings she craved sweets more than anything else. Perhaps it was the butterfly in her. Butterflies drink nectar don't they? She sniffed appreciatively and skipped down the stairs in search of food.
