Tuesday through Wednesday, May 13-14:
So, yesterday, Art-san (Wandering Artist here on Gaia) came over to my house. It was the usual get together featuring art- a subject I adore just as much as Children's Card Games (aka Yu-gi-oh). Anyway, I had to have a break from writing, seeing as how I've been writing nonstop for the last few days, hurrying to finish this novel of mine. Good news is I'm about 60% done. Bad news? It'll have to be, for sure, broken up into two different novels thanks to just the fact of the page length from just chapter 1-10 is roughly 77 pages. Yikes. The publishing company I'm looking at will only do books with a max of 250 pages. Two novels it is, then!
Anyway, Art-san came over. We had to go out for a bit, grab something to munch on, and on the way back we wandered into an art store. Walking into one of those, for us, is like getting a high from artistic crack. We walked down each isle, eyes alight with joy as we examined various art supplies, sketch books, paints and science gadgets. After spending a good while in that store with our purchases, we came across some blank half masks to create. Now, of course, we stared at each other for a minute, a collective thought rampaging through our minds.
Time to get messy and creative!
Grabbing each a half mask and a packet of various sequins and shapes, we sped on back to my house. Shoving Sweeney Todd into my DVD player, we went about creating- just from our pure, blissful imagination- our own masks. We worked on these for a good hour or so painting with acrylics, pasting with sequins and getting extremely complex.
In the end, as my mom noted, our masks defined our separate personalties. Art-san had the most beautiful, simplistic, eloquent mask that reminded me of the Japanese masks mixed with a bit of flamenco flair. She even went as far as embellishing it with charms and beads of gold flowers. Her color theme was red, black, and gold.
Mine was a strange birthing of mix matched flairs and essences of my own personal imagination. It's a tad like a Mardi Gras mask; the colors are mottled splotches of black and white, with purple, dark purple and dark green flames surrounding the eyes. Overall it fits nicely- it just shows how weird my own personality is. A bit angelic and innocent, the other side of the mask is totally demonic influenced by way of color and design.
Art-san suggested we start a business creating and taking commissions for masks. We're bringing our masks to Teen Night, and I'm hoping we can get people to take a gander at our separate styles and ask for us to make them some.
That was yesterday. This morning I sat down at the kitchen table, cracking back into the acrylic paints. The night before, late- about elven or so- I had found a offbrand My Little Pony "reject". It's extremely small, has an "ugly as sin" pink body with a stupid yellow sun on it's haunches. It's tail has a horrific bright purple. Amazed I had once played with this monstrosity I went to work customizing it.
My influence? Apparently it's a fad. People customize their My Little Ponies and create fantastical pieces of artwork from them. They even sell these buggers! I have a ton of old My Little Ponies that are so beat up that it'll be better if I just mess around with them and make them to either sell or give away to people. It gave me an excuse to be splattered with paint- that much I know.
The pink ugly body is now a glossier white. I can't tell you how many coats THAT took. The tail is white currently with a base coat- I'll make it a pale blue to match the already pink and blue nylon hair in the mane (yes, the offbrand is so BAD that the tail ITSELF was plastic). I'm going to try to make a mythical pony out of this mess, seeing if I can resurrect it from the blasphemous, if not previously worthless, grave.
The possibilities are endless. If this doesn't turn out to be a complete failure, and I'm able to pull some of these off, I want to make the ultimate punk pony, ear piercings and all! Imagine a Gothic/Punk pony. Heck yes, I want to create it! That and I saw someone made a Fox styled pony and, well, I want to try it as well.
On second thought... I saw someone make a Gir (from Invader Zim) My Little Pony and, well, I'd love to just be freakish and make Mr. Eff and Psycho D in My Little Pony form.
....Holy heck. On second thought, how about not!
WISH ME LUCK!
