ASK YOURSELF in the most silent hour of your night: must I write? Dig into yourself for a deep answer. And if this answer rings out in assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple "I must," then build your life in accordance with this necessity..." - Rainer Maria Rilke
Do you see what I see?
Once upon a time there was this bird who was trapped in a cage. The bird wanted to escape her prison, because it was filled with hatred and routine. On a very boring, repetitive day, a child came and noticed the bird. The child said, "Would you like me to let you out?" and the bird eagerly replied, "Yes!" But the child's face twisted with cruelty and after taunting the bird with freedom, abandoned it. The bird was so traumatized that it grew hollow and cold to all of the good things. It was definitely better to stay in a safe cage than in a terrible world filled with human beings. It was caged for years and years until finally, its master died. The iron cage crumbled before its feet, and a ray of light shined upon its face. But the bird did not want to leave. The cage was all that it had ever known. What would happen to it in that cruel, cruel world? It worried for days and days. And it died among its shattered cage and shifting light rays illuminating dust particles, forever indecisive. The end.
