Introduction
"Lollipop" is a song by Mika from his 2007 debut album Life in Cartoon Motion. When the album was released, "Lollipop" had high amounts of downloads, even before it had been released as a single, charting in the Top 75 UK Singles Chart. This song was released in March 2008 in Canada. Mika has said in interviews that the song was written as a message to his younger sister
Main Message
The song’s lyrical content is about …well. I really don’t know. There are so many meanings to this song. In my opinion, it means to take you’re “sweet” time finding love and the “lollipop” represents innocence. Or to in a sexual way, the sexual meaning of this song could be the opposite of taking this slow. I think if you analyze this song from a sexual perspective, it could mean that you shouldn't be scared about getting your heart broken by the person you have sex with, but instead should be prepared for it and don't treasure love or physical virginity to much. However, I don't think the purpose of this song is sexual.
Social Implications
The song “Lollipop” affects us socially because some people are “sucking to hard on a lollipop.” You should take it slow on finishing you’re lollipop; if you keep sucking to hard on you’re lollipop it’ll eventually be gone and “Love’s going to get you down.”
Metaphores and Symbols
Now here’s the really hard part. There are lines that have like, 4 different meanings. –Sighs- Alright let’s go through them.
The “Lollipop” can be a symbol of innocence. It makes sense in one way. Like, “Sucking to hard on you’re innocence,” means If you cling or “suck” to hard on you’re innocence, “Love’s going to get you down.” Or, the “Lollipop” could mean something different. It could mean Love. It would make sense as well. “Sucking to hard on you’re love” and then “Love’s going to get you down” If you cling too hard to love, love’s going to get you down. So it could mean if you cling on to hard to something, you’ll get hurt either way.
I find it very interesting; “sucking to hard on your Lollipop.”… Now I think that means that you should take your time finishing Your Lollipop. Basically, I believe this is talking about taking your "Sweet" time with falling in love or “Loves Gonna Get You Down.” This is in direct phrasing with “Bad Girls Are Gonna Get You Down.” One might put these together and think that these two lines mean overall love makes you sad. Another version is I think it's literally about taking things slow, but more figuratively about being careful about giving away your heart.
I find this very ironic however; the song is talking about never finding Love, and if you do, don't Love back. The song has sad lyrics. But the songs rhythm and beat is happy, which is very unique and rarely used.
I believe the general message of this song is not to be a whore and to take things slow; i.e. not to have sex too soon. Or “Love’s going to get you down.”
Mambo Number Five
By Lou Bega
Introduction
"Mambo No. 5" is a jive dance song originally recorded and composed by Pérez Prado in 1949.
The song has a catchy beat and you just feel like swaying or dancing to the song. The song's fame was reborn by Lou Bega's example of the original, released under the same name on Bega's debut album A Little Bit of Mambo. It was a hit in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, where it reached #1 in 1999. It stayed at #1 in Australia for eight weeks, ultimately becoming the best-selling single of the year. It also topped almost every chart in Continental Europe, including his home country, Germany, and set a record by staying at number one in France for 20 weeks (longer than any stay at the top spot ever on the US or UK charts), and the song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. It has been announced as the twelfth most successful song of the 1990s.
The Main Message
The main message is about a man (In this case, Lou Bega) who loves to flirt, “To me flirtin´´ it´s just like a sport” with technically 8 woman. (The eighth woman is “You”) And all he “needs” is these woman, since Rita is “All he needs” and Mary “All night long.” Etc. basically, he is flirting with all these girls and then cheating on them with all 7 at the same time. Although I have no idea how he can juggle them all.
Social Implication
In these lyrics, the issue is cheating. Cheating is quite common among the world these days. And in this song, Lou is singing about how he can have 7 or 8 girls at once. Cheating is bad for the girls, but good for him. He gets 8 (technically 7) girls! HE gets the awesome cake, they get the cookies until they find out that he has the cake and then they destroy the cake. Then all hell is loose. Cheating in my opinion is very stupid. It is not a “game” or a “safety net.” You could hurt yourself and other people in the process.
Symbols and Metaphors
“A little bit of Rita is all I need” means something weird. If Rita was all he needed then why does he need all the other girls? This represents greed and apparently he doesn’t need the sun. “A little bit of Sandra in the sun”
“To me flirting is just like a sport” also represents greed and also lust. He’s saying that flirting is easy as playing something. Flirting can be harmless, but getting to serious could destroy something good. The lust part is because he is flirting with almost EVERYONE!
Although this song has semi-horrible lyrics, if you pay close enough attention, you’ll find yourself tapping to this beat and even singing the words!
