Orders

Turning, Lord Avondale saw Taran run over to a computer terminal. Good. Double checking to see what Rose had pulled up before entering and deleting it without asking.

When Taran turned to him with lightning flashing in his eyes, Lord Avondale arched an eyebrow. When Taran spoke, Lord Avondale adopted a small amused smile.

Waiting for Taran to finish, Lord Avondale said, "It was quite necessary for her protection rather than ours. What I did was of no concern for you to know, though it is something that all Dragoons--regardless of who they serve--learn when they are ready. I will say this, red ribbons are a rarity."

Sitting on one of the chairs in the study, Lord Avondale leaned forward and looked up at Taran. "About the assignment I spoke of earlier, I realize I cannot go on it because I am too close to both subjects--which would endanger the missions. Before I go on, allow me to summon Dragoon n**."

Hearing Rose exclaim Kaku's name, he thought of a way he could possibly help jog Wynn's memory--and introduce Kaku to his nephew-in-law and grandniece.

Answering Summons

Starting, n** dropped the plate she was holding as her eyes glazed over for a split second.

"Mum?" Ette asked.

"Huh, oh," n** replied, snapping out of her trance. Looking at her feet, n** saw the shards of broken plate. Picking them up and putting them in the sink where Nerissa would fix them with nanobots, n** said, "Kids, I have to go. Tell Dragon I'll be back in a while and that I'm taking Shal, Wynn, Wolf, and Larkin with me."

"Where you goin?" Nate asked.

"Out," n** replied.

Before her children could ask, n** sought out the four she had mentioned she was taking with her. "I'm headed over to Rose's house. I got a call from Lord Avondale asking that I bring you four with me."

"What's he want us for?" Larkin asked.

"He didn't say," n** said. "Though he did mention it would involve someone the four of you know."

"I don't know anyone outside of here," Wynn said nervously. "Are you sure he sent for me?"

"Especially you," n** said.

"Are we going to walk there?" Shalimar asked. "I mean, we won't all fit on your Harley and mom won't let us ride motorcycles because she thinks we're all too young despite...well, you know."

Spotting Xink walking by, n** walked up to him. "Excuse me, Xink. Can you create portals like your mom can?"

"Yeah, why?" Xink asked.

"I was wondering if you could make a portal connecting to Rose's house," n** replied.

"What are you doing there?" Xink asked.

"I was asked by Lord Avondale to bring these four there," n** said. "And to not let Dragon know about it."

"I don't know," Xink replied. "Mom would know about me opening a portal and follow."

"That's okay," n** said. Improvising, she added, "Lord Avondale said that you two could come if you wanted."

"Well, okay," Xink said, opening a portal.

Almost instantly, another portal opened next to them and Xangord stepped through. "What are you doing?"

"We're going to Rose's house," n** said. "Care to come along?"

After a moments thought, Xangord replied, "No."

"The do not inform Dragon," n** said. "Lord Avondale's orders."

"Very well," Xangord said.

"Mom can I go?" Xink asked. Looking at Xink, Xangord nodded. Smiling, Xink said, "Thanks!"

Having been fully healed by Shalimar, Wolf picked her up and said, "I've got my portal travelling buddy!!"

Shalimar laughed as n** said, "Okay, everyone through the portal please."

Stepping through the portal, n** blinked a bit as she stepped from the inside darkness of Dragon's house to the bright sunlight of outside. Before she could ash, n** quickly placed a spell on herself that protected her from the sun's destructive rays.

"Are you going to be okay?" Shalimar asked.

"It's been a few years since I've been outside at this time of the day," n** replied a little weakly. Looking around, she saw a crater caused by some kind of crash landing and five Nobodies. "Seems like Rose has company."

Recognizing two of the Nobodies from his mother's stories, Xink pointed at them and said, "Those two are Se'rox and ZuchaX III. They're the first two Nobodies that mom met and didn't disdain."
