The Next Trial
at least 2 weeks have passed since they threw me into the dark room. But the heavy set kid and myself were soon freed from the prison, but they separated us from each other. The child was taken by some of the other monks in the temple, while I was taken by the same man who brought me to the temple. After a while, I heard the screams of the child along with "The Kiss of The Lash" once again. Soon after, I heard what I believe would be my own death if I failed to complete any task the elders gave me. The roars of mountain lions, and the sounds of flesh being torn from a body. I knew what had happened to the kid, and I pray that it doesn't happen to me. I on the other hand, was taken to a large steel set of doors, and a white light peeked through the crack. I brought my hand up to shield my eyes from the light, since I had been in darkness so long. Once the doors were opened, I felt if my skin was being burned from the light of the sun. But it's warmth and light felt wonderful to me. Taking my first step onto the solid concrete slabs that graced the ground of the back of the temple, there was a large wooden fence, with the poles being made out of tree trunks. Other children seemed to be training with each other in the light of the sun, but it seemed there was no shade since the sun was in the position of being the middle of the day. My mentor brought me over to a small table, but it didn't have as much food on it as the table from my second trial. I took my time eating, although my body was starved, afraid that they would throw me back in the dark room. My mentor probably figured this out, and walked over to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. I felt my body freeze instantly, then my gaze slowly looked up to him while my body trembled heavily. But he only smiled and gave a slow nod before saying. "That trial is over Drakin, you not need worry about being thrown in the darkness for such a period of time." This helped me relax somewhat and I began to eat a bit faster, enjoying the flavor of the food still. Another student was brought over to me, but he was several years older than me. He told me his name was Socrates Han, but there were tears in both our eyes as he told me that he was my brother. My mentor then left us as Socrates sat down next to me and told me that things would somewhat stay the same for me. He also told me that there would be a life or death trial for me to go through sometime in the next few weeks, and he told me that only the strongest of the people that resided within the temple, was able to survive this test. But he would not tell me what the trial was. After we finished eating, we talked about what our future will be like after we survive the temple. His dreams are to create a empire with the family name, and he would like for me to rule by his side along with our sister, at this moment he does not know where our sister is, but we are trying to find out where our sister lies within the temple walls.
