The Great Himalayas of Oklahoma
(Also known as “Shiro’s Bicycling Misadventure” crying )

So—for those who don’t know, summer is definitely my favorite season. I love to be out in the sun and the heat—my inability to produce my own body heat is such that I might secretly be a member of a lost reptilian race. You might think that this love of the great outdoors would mean that I must be a fairly athletic or at least ‘healthy’ person—unfortunately, the reverse is pretty much true sweatdrop

And yet.

And yet—somehow or another, I got it into my head that it would be fun to go for a little bike ride. I don’t quite know why. Maybe I just missed biking around campus? My beautiful, beloved, utterly flat campus... I mean, when people think of Oklahoma (‘if’ they think of Oklahoma stare ), they probably think of a lot of flat nothingness, and that’s pretty much how my university’s campus is (except with a lot of trees and buildings instead of a lot of nothingness). They probably chose the location because it was so flat, because it’s so ideal for building. But, the thing is… I live out in the country. There are actual hills out here. eek I mean, I know they don’t compare to the honest-to-gosh mountains on the east and west coasts, and they don’t really seem that bad when you’re driving on them…

But still.

crying Um, well... I made it about a mile and a half, at least. The roads here are laid out in a grid, and the original plan was to just keep turning right until I made it the whole way around one square—4 miles. burning_eyes Maybe if I trained for like a couple years, yeah… By the time I got back home, I felt like I was going to faint, or throw up, or spontaneously develop asthma, or possibly all three at once >_> So now I feel like I really ought to get myself a little more in shape—but I’m also a little afraid to try this again, especially because I didn’t have cell phone reception part of the time xD;; (‘Why’ would I want to do that to myself again?!)

emo They’re mountains. Trust me. *falls over*

HAHAHAHA! rofl You're the one who goes to the gym! razz I actually really hate the summer and the heat and sun. *rubs toe in dirt* I burn to a crisp almost instantly (<--trust me, the one time I forgot to put sunscreen on when I went swimming for 3 hours... it was not pretty. I burned all the skin off my face, literally. For a month afterward my face was one huge blistered scab. *shudder* Never, NEVER again!). For another thing, I like being warm as much as anyone, but I really can't stand the heat. It turns me into a lump a slowly melting marshmallow. crying I never feel like doing anything when it's absurdly hot out. And I HATE the bugs! I literally refuse to eat outside during the summer. If we have a barbecue, I'll get a plate and then take it inside so bees won't come after my hamburger and gnats won't fall into my drink. *such a party-pooper* xd

So what happened after the mile and a half, anyway? Did you end up turning around and having to go back? Or did you have to continue and finish up? You must live on like 'huge' blocks! O_O That reminds me of the 5-mile Nisqually hike! I don't mind wandering around or anything, but I like being able to return and sit down for periods of time. 5 miles in one go just about wipes me out for like the week. ^^ With any luck, the 2 mile Ape Caves spelunking trip will be the longest, most physically exerting thing we'll do. It'll be underground, so it'll be cool, and we'll probably stop ALOT to let our legs stop screaming. biggrin You might have to remind me. I tend to get into this "Let's get the freakin' thing over with already!" mode when it comes to physically exerting things, and then you have to remind me to take breaks. redface On the other hand, if you bike, I think you're probably more in-shape than I am. ^_~
