So the journal description is only so many characters when viewing entries, so here is the skinny on what I'm doing here...
I LOVE Yahtzee's reviews on ZeroPunctuation because he doesn't score games on a rigid scale.
I HATE numerical grading systems because there is no perfect way to give points and compare any two games, especially when I plan on writing reviews for over older games.
Basically, positive points for LOVE, meaning good parts of the game, reasons to buy a game, reasons to play the game again, etc.
HATE is negative, consisting of anything that makes you want to punch infants, slit wrists (your own or otherwise), or bury the game forever. Okay, okay, it's not necessarily THAT bad when I put something on my hate list, but it's definitely what should be accounted before you buy the game yourself, as nitpicking can add up over time.
Simply put, I will give positive and/or negative points for each notable entry (visual, story, mechanics, etc.), and I will usually limit a single entry to one or two points, with OCCASIONAL deviation to maybe a +/-3 or 0.5. In the "Results" section, I will give a score by adding up all positive and negative points, where a positive overall is good, negative is bad, and zero is just pain mediocre.
PS
I might include this with every review, editing every so often to follow the evolution of this style.
