The list I referenced in my previous Summer Activity list:
Summer Vacation Movie
Evaluation Report
By Derek Simi, P.F.C
Note: Movies not listed in order of quality
1.Blues Brothers; a zany comedy with explosions, nazis, jazz, and “Use of Unnecessary Force”
2.Gojira; the original Godzilla film, and a good movie on the dangers of nuclear weapons
3.The other 26 godzilla films; recommended only to those who enjoy B-movie silliness, but do us all a favor and pretend Godzilla's Revenge never existed. Don't even look it up. I'm f*cking serious.
4.The Lord of The Rings Trilogy; not the most faithful adaptation, but one of the best to watch
5.Mad Max; a dark film about a bleak future
6.Jurassic Park; while the sequels were meh, the original is a great suspense movie, with amazing visuals for the time
7.Dr. Strangelove; the best comedy about the Cold War, and one of the best comedies, period.
8.The Indiana Jones series; while not the deepest of films, they are a lot of fun
9.Schindler's List; one of Steven Spielberg's best films, a great film
10.Jaws; the film that defines the “blockbuster” genre of film, with suspense, a little comedy relief, and scary shark action.
11. Bender's Big Score; a great finale to the Futurama TV show, a goodbye and a funny film in its own right
12. The Austin Powers Trilogy; a great parody of all the old spy shows and movies
13.To Kill a Mockingbird; okay, so I included it on this list because I wanted to see Scout flailing around in a ham costume, so what?
14.Dances with Wolves; another classic, and a touching story about a cavalry officer who befriends a tribe of Native Americans
15.Pirates of the Caribbean; actually, just the first one, maybe, I dunno
16. M*A*S*H; probably the only comedy about the Korean war there is.
17. Flags of our Fathers/Letters From Iwo Jima; best viewed together, both are great films on the historic Battle of Iwo Jima in WWII
18.Unforgiven; possibly the best western ever made. Go see it.
19.Iron Man; a great comic-book movie.
And that pretty much wraps it up for the first edition (I couldn't think up of any more “must see films”). Feel free to comment on what should/shouldn't be included.
