The Lovers Who Fought In The Civil War

September 17, 1862

Union forces march into Antietam. They stop General Robert E. Lee and his Confederate forces. A full on battle rises out of the conflict. A battle through the day rages on. As Private Carter Goldstein marches onto the field he begins to fire upon the forces. The Confederates put up a fight. As many know, women would disguise themselves in the Army. In the middle of the day the fight rages on. Many have gone missing. Soldiers trip over the corpses of their allies using only guns smoke as cover. Lee knew his forces that day at Maryland were outnumbered. By nightfall 26,000 soldiers are dead or missing. General Lee took the remaining Confederates with him as he let cowardice get the best of him. His withdrawal back to Virginia proves a Union Victory.

The confederates take their pride, or it's shredded remains and march back with their defeated General to the National Capital of the C.S.A (Confederate States of America) As time passes Winter sets in. And the battle of Fredericksburg begins. With new General Ambrose E. Burnside in place of McCellan due to his disability to follow up to orders quickly the army of Potomac is led by a new force. during the Battle of Fredericksburg General Burnside suffers a costly defeat at the hand of the Confederacy. Even though that Goldstein had killed more than a thousand men. The next day he was promoted to a Corporal. Along side of Ambrose he noticed one Sergeant from the opposing forces made sure that not a single bullet hit him.

As January 25th comes Burnside is replaced with Joseph Hooker. Goldstein is appointed to the West to fight alongside general Ulysses S. Grant with orders to capture Vicksburg. The draft continues until in May the battle of Chancellorsville comes along. Hooker is easily polished off by Lee's small Confederate forces.
"I lost confidence in Joe Hooker," Said the defeated General about his own demise. Soon the South Suffers a huge loss when Stonewall Jackson passes away. Like last time, Hooker is replaced. This time by General George Meade, the 5th man to lead the Army of Potomac in less than a year. The battle of Gettysburg, and the most important battle, soon sets in.

By this time Goldstein has been promoted up to Sergeant first class. Unfortunately he does not make it through the day. The same day he was promoted he fights at Gettysburg. Gunfire goes off as Goldstein shoots a Confederate. By the scream he notices... It was his wife. He rushes across the smoky battlefield to his dearly beloved. As he comforts her. She lay still and cold.. dead from Goldstein's shot directly to her forehead. As war rages on Meade runs up to the Sergeant. He realizes.. the war must go on. Meade continues from the cover of and old wagon.

As Goldstein lay by his wife the war rages on. He goes into denial. Not believing that he has killed his wife. Insanity sets in. He goes on a rampage.. killing his friends and Gettysburg's civilians. As his insanity grows he suffers a fate worse than death. Goldstein's pressure, stress, regret, denial, and insanity grows to a point where he has no choice. He sits next to the corpse of his wife. Sticking the barrel of his springfield rifle down his throat. Before he pulls the trigger he says this, "My only regret is that i've no place to go. Meade, my dear friends, don't forget about me. As I ride off into the sunset on a horse. I hope the war outcome turns out good." As he pull the trigger the bullet slices down his throat, destroying his insides and piercing most of his vital organs. He dies... next to his wife in a pool of blood streaming from his mouth.
