Sweet ^^. So after 3 years on being on the slowly dying gaia I decided to finally make a journal (I joined in '05). Pretty happy, even though my journal won't be as good as others. You might wonder why I said slowly dying gaia, I said it because it's true in my eyes. Trust me, gaia wasn't so materialistic 3 years ago and now it seems a lot people just care about their status in gaia. I found a post that I agree with wholeheartidly (off a petition to put gaia the way it used to be). I hope you don't mind Kayiko if I quote your post, and I'll pm you after I write this to make sure if it's alright with you ^^. If not, I'll easily take your post off my journal.

Im proud to say that i joined in 2003, and this is still the original account i joined with. Im proud of that! (I guess i was under the radar with all these old user bannings that Gaia was doing lately). I still have all my original items and have never been hacked. (Though it seems something happened last month where i kept getting e-mails about it.. ) I will be the first to say that i am soooo upset at how badly this site has killed itself. Even just to see people who joined two years ago talk about the way it used to be.. I understand that things can't always stay the same.. but to completely change the entire point of why something was even founded.. Is just sooooo depressing.
Take Mtv for example. It started out to play music. Now.. You can hardly find one music video on their unless you are up at 5 in the morning... and then i caught a commercial saying "Now we will be playing more videos on Friday nights!!" ........... um.. shouldn't you to playing them always? Im not an Mtv fan or anything... but just using its as an example because thats Exactly what Gaia is doing. Its completely changing to becoming a money making, selling out, company. Which NOW pimps and advertises for Mtv!!
I will say that i doo like the games and the towns. People did ask for more things to do around here, and Gaia did provide in some other things to do. But one thing never over shadowed the other. The Forums were always the main part of this site. Doing things together. The events and all! I admit.. i did like the change up where you had to go into the towns to look for things like Easter eggs or for Halloween.. That was always fun.. But there was always a tie into the forums as well as that.
The change of hands in order of who headed this company seems to be where Gaia started to make its downfall. When Lanzer was the head, we always got his journal updates about whats going on with the site. Right or wrong. We -ALWAYS- knew what was going on. Now? Every update is either about some marketing crap, something to do with the cash shop.. or something else. I honestly didn't even know i had to go searching for real site updates by reading admins personal journals. Heck.. I a lot of people dont even know that Lanzer IS no longer the head person at Gaia. .and keep blaming him for how badly this site is doing. Its not his fault. And when he does try and help and say something good to help us out.. it ends up being wrong.
This past year Gaia as turned into a cesspool of filth. The fondest memory i do have so far was Christmas. But look how they later handled that. "oh they liked it! Lets put it in the cash shop!" The events and over all enjoyment of the community has lowered and now.. most of the people, newbies (not all, but as it seems, a lot) only care about money. I remember when i gave away my silver metal i won in the art arena to get my friend her bunny slippers because her friend hacked into her account and took them. I gained nothing from selling something that was worth (back in 2003) 3,000,000. And i felt good about helping someone out! .. i ask.. is there any type of kindness out there in Gaia today? I doubt it. People are just in it for themselves.
The Gaia gold. A good a bad thing to try and make so important here. Though i dont fully understand this whole "gold sink" thing... the recent inflation in even the normal shops only causes more and more inflation. Why not have a limit to how much gold we can get. Then there is no reason to sit there and fight and make things sooooo expensive. Its turned everyone around here into greedy, gold hungry, item loving little brats. Which only fulls the fire and allows Gaia to make things like the cash shop. Because now greedy lil brats go " I must have it!!!!!!! " This site is all about greed now.
And that being said.... i will now talk about the Cash Shop. This has to be the WORST, WORST thing Gaia has ever come up with. The moment it came out.. i KNEW they would abuse the s**t out of it. And now they have. I knew they would make that the spotlight of Gaia.. And now it is. Someone else i wrote that a lot of what the users have been asking for, like items, are all going into the cash shop.. and its true. They want us to come up with idea's for items and when we do.. They want US to pay real money for them. Someone else said that since the people here are greedy lil people and jumped at the new idea and bought the ew CS items, its now OUR fault that Gaia has been pumping so much attention into it. No its not OUR fault! And Gaia -IS- shitty for abusing the CS like it has, just because people did like it. If they treated it fairly and evenly, as well as with the other shops and stuff around Gaia.. The site wouldn't feel like a money whoring site. It has.. and thats the impression its sadly giving to the people who join who now just want to get ALL the gold they can.
What ever happened to just having fun? What ever happened to being able to be a part of Gaia and not to be made to feel like you SHOULD be giving them your real money, just to feel like you are a part of this site? Do i REALLY need a skittles belt? Or..... for the love of hell.. ******** Playboy Bunny ears?!?!? Where has your morals gone Gaia? That you are now willing to market to a movie that has playboy bunnies in it? Don't even get me started on that. I find that advertising ******** down right... like i can't even think of a bad enough word to describe how enraged -that- made me.
This oldbie is really upset at the downfall of this place... And i guess selling your soul to the entertainment and marking crap is all Gaia cares about now. Its just like every other site out there. Full of adds, and trying to milk money out of everyone.
The only good thing about the site.. are the GOOD PEOPLE who still pick to stay in hopes that somehow.. this place will clean up and become fun again. Sadly.. more and more of those people are leaving... and soon... I will be one of them as well. What hurts is that.. Gaia most likely... doesn't even care.

I fully agree with everything you said. The cash shop just destroyed this site in my opinion. It makes you feel like you have to donate to gaia, instead of it being from the kindness of your heart. What you should do gaia (if a mod is reading this) is get rid of the cash shop and put some of the cash shop items in the regular store so we don't have to spend money to get nice items. Just that would fix a lot things, it wouldn't make you look so greedy for money. Then people would actually have to work hard for items instead (like the good old gaia days) of buying a stupid gaia cash card then buying cash items to sell in the marketplace. You can make really easy gold that way... but there is no sense of accomplishment if thats you achieve your gaia pixels (I have to admit though, I cracked once or twice and bought a cash card. Ended up donating almost everything I made from that though. Basically spent 200k on the bone helmet and gave whatever gold I had left over to others on actual quest.. which is basically 90% of gaia. Felt like the right thing to do). I've ignored the MTV ever since day one. I'm alright with the ads... I know you need some money to run the site. But your just overdoing it a little bit gaia with wanting real cash and you've shown that with the cash shop (When I saw the announcement saying you can now buy gaia cash cards at 7-11 it dissapointed me. Making sure everyone can buy your cards aren't you?) Oh... and another thing, am I the only one annoyed with the constant annoucements? They're all just for a stupid gaia cash shop update and they come a lot. I don't even bother to read the announcement anymore, I just click then leave them. I know everyone doesn't agree with this, but it just what I think. I've been pondering about leaving gaia too, I quit gaia for a month not too long ago but came back, still hanging out in rp's or randomly chatting a little on the forums. I'm not an oldbie, kind of inbetween I guess. Wish I was here for Go-Gaia days but I'm happy I was here when gaia was still fun in '05 before the cash shop. That's my two cents and my rant for today and it would be awesome to hear what you guys also think about this. I know everyone doesn't agree with this... everyone is different. I don't feel like debating this really, just curious on what everyone else thinks ^^. There's a lot of points I could talk about... like how the new layout sucks, gaia gold isn't as valuable anymore (Having 10k used to mean something. Now it doesn't), there is hardly any good regular shop updates, etc...
