Innocence

take me back
to the days of
miss mary mack
and jumprope
of easybake oven
and always having
something to do
i want to go back
to when i had
no obligations
or worries
when boys still had cooties
and when we had sleepovers
we did makeovers
or played house
all night
we had no idea
there were no drugs
no alcohol
no peer pressure
we didnt know or care
about what the rest
of the world was going through
we didnt know war
and all our fears could be
wisked away by our parents
they were our protectors
now we are all thrust
into the real world
we still have our parents
but its not the same
i miss it
that childhood innocence
