I've done these pieces of work for a while now, save for one certain guy that I finished up the day after my nephew left. He was spending a week here at my house. I had a blast with the kid!
Anyway, I decided to post these before I completely forgot about them. That, and I hadn't written a Journal entry in a while, so...
Heads up. Who's a "Disgaea" fan? Raise your hands high, let me see them! Okay, if you know, or even played, Disgaea 1, you should be set for this. Prinnies are sinful little souled penguins that, when thrown, explode. When a character in the world of Disgaea dies with a sin on their soul, they become a Prinny to work off their "sins" with low paid wages from either Celestia (Heaven) or the Netherworld (Hell). Rather funny. Out of all the Prinnies I've seen, I've loved two Prinnies: a pink one, named "Big Sis", and Kurtis, the green Prinny. Yeahh, you know where I'm going with this.
I sculpted Kurtis! My God, that took a while. It took a day to sculpt the sucker, from hand, with only one picture to look off of. Sanding and laying down the multiple layers of paint took a day and a half. No gloss was added- yet. I'm deciding whether or not to do it.
I admit there are flaws with him, but I'm pretty happy how it turned out. It was my first time sculpting the wayward Prinnies, let alone Kurtis himself. My next project is the "Prinny-fy" my entire group of friends. That, or sculpt Big Sis.
A little information on Kurtis. He was originally a cyborg human who wanted to be "Defender of Earth", so to speak. His sin was suicide, the highest sin. He sacrificed himself for his "friends". At first he was a villain, but he later turned quasi-good hero with a touch of rivaling viewpoints.
Please note that for the above picture you should ignore the green squeaky moose toy behind Kurtis. I forgot to take him out of the picture, and I couldn't get a better frontal shot than this one.
Yes. The legs are toothpicks. I laugh SO hard when I look at his legs. I was about to sculpt the peg legs, but then I thought, "hell, what am I doing? Just use a two dang toothpicks. He can't stand anyway". It was smart but, mostly, a product of my laziness not to sculpt, and paint, those peg legs.
Now, a month and a half back, or so, I sculpted the other comrade to Mr. Eff. You remember that, right? I put up a picture of a sculpted Doughboy from the JtHM comic. Black hat, red eyes... yeah, him. Anyway, I finally got the gumption, and I sculpted Psycho D(oughboy).
I admit he wasn't as fun painting him. His face was a pain. His emo-tear drops under his eyes, and the swirls in the eyes THEMSELVES, caused a bit of cursing (under my breath) on my part. He took a whole day to sculpt, and three whole days to paint. He was worth it, though. He's a bit chunkier than his partner, and I guess it's because I can't get it perfectly right on the second time.
Yes, I'm sorry... his shirt DOES say that word. I painted him to be 100% accurate and, well... let's just say Jhonen Vasquez (the original creator and copyright holder of the devilish duo) must have been extremely angry and spiteful towards the world when he made him. That, or he has a sick sense of humor.
The major flaw with the Doughboys are quite obvious. It's the legs. In the comic they have extremely thin (almost stick like) legs. I couldn't do that. I had to make them chunky in order for them to stand upright. I can't tell you how many times I experimented with Mr. Eff (the first one made), and, disgruntled, came to the conclusion that I had to make them have those chunky legs. That's the one major thing I hate about them.
So... I've been sculpting like crazy. I even did another pony. I took it's mane and tail out, one follicle at a time, and I painted the body white. I sculpted hair, horns, shaggy fur on the hooves, and a goat beard to make a faun. Hopefully I'll put a picture of that up.
I'll end this entry with a snapshot of my new, revised, shelf of madness in my room. I need a life...
...I love the random Licker (from Resident Evil) toy sitting atop my Manga. I never noticed that. It's like he's guarding it or something. That's friggin' hilarious.
heart Peace out, ya'll! heart
