Those who do not fear their blade are not fit to wield it.~ Shuhei Hisagi
DEMOX ch. 5
Chapter 5: Enemies

Hope followed close behind me as we approached the Lamian opposers. “You serious about this, Hotshot?” she asked.

“When it comes to Demox, always! Plus, this is a basic battle tactic, ‘know thine enemy’!” I confirmed. I’d never conversed with a Lamian before, to tell the truth. Actually, Anthony’s dad is stationed there on the American army base. So when we see him, he talks about how formal and stiff they are. So I’d picked up on their mannerisms and started off by bowing to the female of the team. Hope followed with a half-assed bow to the guy. They were not impressed.

“Good afternoon!” the boy said bowing to Hope and the girl did the same to me.

“Hello, and welcome to Neravien! I hope you enjoyed your trip here!” I replied. And that was a typical Lamian greeting.

Hope didn’t that though and giggled, thinking I was just being funny. She isn’t very fond of Lamis at all. ‘Bunch of old stuck up bastards’ she calls ‘em. “At least one has manners!” the girl told to her partner rolling her eyes.

“What?” Hope asked walking up to her hostily. She always said she’d just any excuse to fight a Lamian.

I threw my arm out and grabbed her skinny, yet strong shoulder. “Chill, Hope!” I hissed. I turned her around to face me and I smiled. “Let me take care of this! Anthony’s dad taught us how to deal with Lamians! Just stand tall and look pretty for me, ok?” I whispered in her ear.

Hope stared me for a second with reluctance, but nodded and smiled as if nothing happened. “Excuse me, hello! My name is Hope! How are you?” she introduced herself with heavy sarcasm, unseen by the two.

“And me, they call Dyron!” I followed. “Now, how about your names?”

The boy finally grinned and replied, “You know our formalities quite well, don’t you Dyron? Well, if you insist, I am Tyler!”

Hope’s eyes shifted to those of the other girl. The girl seemed out of place. She was more of a high matinence type girl sorta like Kimi. But then again weren’t most Lamian girls? “And you?” Hope asked, again with in a mocking tone they wouldn’t have seen as that way.

“Oh. It’s Melissa,” she said taking a hesitant step forward.

“So I couldn’t help but hear that Lamis has chosen two Battles this year. Why the change?” I asked. They always had a Defender or Mage on their team. This was a first. Especially since they’ve won the race for the last five years in a row. Now you see why we did what we did with Kratias.

“We’ve had a lot of First-Aid training. But enough about us,” Tyler answered changing the subject. “tell us Dyron, what is your weapon of choice?”

“Well, I’m not limited to it, by far, but it is the chain scythe!” A smile let loose on Hope’s face, seeing their surprise.

Melissa spoke up this time. “I myself specialize in ranged weapons such as bows, crossbows, things of that nature!” Melissa explained. “Chain scythe, huh? My older took up the chain scythe. He dropped it after it dropped his arm!” she said grimly. Was that supposed to scare me? Pathetic attempt if she was. “But beside the point, right Tyler?”

“Right then,” he began. “Double short swords, the single katana,” he stated. Little did he know I could do everything they could do, if not better! So I decided to drop the conversation there. The meeting was about to start anyway.
