I think the we all like to be told what to do. At least I know I do. When the need to make a decision is taken off our shoulders we sit back relax and do what we're told. No stress, no responsibility. When you look at what the rich and famous are doing you see personal trainers (no, do your push-ups this way), Image consultants (no, smile like this so you don't look like that), stylists (no, wear this so you don't look bad), personal marketers (no don't go to that place, you'll be seen as anti-whatever), financial advisers (no don't put your money there it won't work for you) and so forth. The same goes for politicians, what do you think the cabinet members do. Now ultimately the choice to follow these pearls of wisdom are made by us, but its nice to be given them none the less.

I think success comes from those pearls and our own choice to use them and where they come from. As kids there was always the, "Try this you'll be cool" or, "don't go steady with that boy he's not popular enough." Now that we're older we go around looking for people to tell us what to do. All the self help books in the world still don't add up to an instruction book on life. We're stuck with the choices we make for ourselves.

When I spent my meager 4 years in the Army as a intel analyst, I enjoyed the wonderful world of being told what to do in everyday life. Of course I had to make choices and become a leader there, those few years when Sgt. Soandso would say, time to do PT, time for personal hygiene, time for training, time to eat, time to sleep, time to wake up, as so forth, it was nice. I didn't have to say to my cat, "I don't want to get up this morning, can I afford to take a sick day?"

No don't get me wrong, I'm all about taking charge and getting things done. I like things a particular way and in my relationships I've always been the decisive one. Who wouldn't like to be in a position to say what goes. In opposition to that however is the mere thought of just not having to make a choice. Tell me what to do for just this week. How nice would that be?
