The ED Showcase will be updated at random intervals, though at least twice per week; topics will be chosen directly from the Extended Discussion forum and will be chosen for:
--Timeliness
--Importance in Society
--Provided Evidence
--General debate
To be showcased, the debate will have to feature both pro's and con's, or evidence for or against the proposed subject. Any namecalling or over-depreciation (so that the debate becomes an argument) will lead to the debate losing points and most probably not being chosen for showcasing.
After the thread has quieted, the original showcase post will be updated with a brief summary of the debate, a star rating for overall quality, and a "winner" chosen.
While common "hot topics" like abortion, gay rights, and politics will most probably be showcased multiple times, lesser-known yet important and well-debated topics will also be prominently featured. This journal and its coverage allow for more participants in the debate, as well as for those who are interested in the subjects to go back and see past debates, as well as the outcomes and the points made.
Topics may also be submitted; thread creators are encouraged to message me, Arazella, with new debates they create so that I can look over them and perhaps showcase them earlier on, leading to more coverage and participants.
Note: A debate may only be showcased once; a topic may be showcased infinite times.
