A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
And the Ugliness Escalates.
A white college woman in Pitzburgh has been arrested for falsely reporting an attack by a "6'4" black Obama supporter. She carved a backwards "B" into her own skin because despite being in college, she didn't realize things are backwards in a mirror. The whole story was a fabrication. Apparently she didn't know ATMs have cameras and it was easy to prove that she wasn't where she said she was. Things like this are evil. It trivializes other cases where women are attacked and makes it less likely for them to believe. Because she is white and her fabrication was black it whips up more race hatred and ups the anti just a little further. It raises spectors of race riots and the lynching of that poor b*****d who smiled at a white woman and said high while visiting the south. People just a little older than I am can remember this first hand "strange fruit" and white hysteria over black sexuality leading to the death of innocent men. We still teach To Kill a Mockingbird for a reason. This woman wants McCain to win, so what's good for other women (being believed when they are attacked) and what's good for the country (an end to lynchings and race riots) meant nothing to here. what a glorious blow for the right, striking at women and people of colour throughout the country in one blow. Before her arrest, several papers had already printed inflammatory articles and, of course, the McCain campaign was using it to whip up furious crowds about this insult to white womanhood. I don't have any grief or outrage left, only a cold deep horror about where this is heading.
