Towards Tomorrow
A poem by Deborah burger
I am silent standing on the sidewalk
Darkness runs as colorful lights playfully chase it away
Casting shadows on its rough canvice
I watch as the shadows dance gracefully across the street
Cars honk their horns, and the murmurs of people dance through my ears
Rain begins to fall on to the road painting pictures
People rush past me covering their heads
I watch as a storm of umbrellas glide slowly on the other side of the street
Reluctantly I look to the ground
And in a puddle I see my reflection, a broken doll
A tall girl with messy wet brown hair and gray eyes
I stand there confused
Wanting to go home but does not the way
Lost
Masses of people all going different directions
With different dreams
They are all going somewhere
But where am I going?
I silently wait hoping somebody would take my hand
And tell me its ok and that i'm not alone
Look into my eyes and you will see a reflection of yester day
Look at my smile and you will see hope
Talk to me and be heard
The wind begins to howl as the streets begin to clear up
The full moon cast almost a halo of light down the streets
The streetlights begin to get brighter
And the stars begin to hide behind the light
As I stare down the empty street I begin to move forward
Moving towards tomorrow
And leaving today behind
Where I’m going I don’t know
Ill find out when I get there
Never looking back
Ill create my future, a home
