Sad stuff; being blue
Chapter 3
I'm sorry for the major delay on this,I've been working on my script but now that that is done I can come back to my book. I'm working on chapter 4 so read this and let me know what you think of it.

…Into the Unknown…

A lone train sailed through the city on aged tracks towards its approaching destination. Within a few minutes, it slowed to a quick stop after a shrill and elongated squeal of the breaks. On both sides of the train were concrete platforms, both were noticeably worn through many years of serving their purpose. A copious amount of people stood on these platforms; they’d been waiting some time to become passengers of the train. These people varied from all kinds of races and colors, each with there own unique cultural backgrounds. Ilan had never truly taken the time to notice this, he released a small smile. With the new burden and confusion that accompanied the events of the past week, he delighted in being mixed in with a crowd. By being blended with everyone else, Ilan felt ordinary again. A strange smell erupted from the inside of the train as the doors opened, however the people on the platform ignored it as they began to pile in. Being one of the last to board the train, Ilan found himself squished against the window of one of the doors. He had his back against the window and was face to face with the man from the hospital, Taurus. The man stared straight into his eyes, Ilan swiftly steered his eyes to the side where a rather large woman, who could only be described as hag-like, gave him a wink of the eye. With great disgust he shifted his eyes to the roof of the train; his gaze remained there until enough people had cleared out. Ilan quickly made his way to a seat that was nearby, yawning as he sat down. Taurus continued to stare at him as he had before. Ilan put his hand on the side of his face; he thought this would somehow block the disturbing stare of the man. The train came to a halt at another platform, Ilan decided to try something. He jumped from his seat as soon as the train doors opened. With great speed he ran out of the train and onto the platform, to his great horror, the man began to follow. Ilan bolted into the next section of the train, the doors shut before the man could get back in. Their eyes met as the train started to move, the cold placid eyes sent a chill down Ilan’s spine. Once Taurus had faded into the distance, Ilan made his way back to the seat. When he sat down he noticed who was seated beside him, the massive hag-like woman from before. She glanced at him several times before speaking in a low voice, “Did you know that guy?”
Ilan hesitated having this conversation, “No…I honestly have no clue who that was or why he was following me.”
“Now that sure is strange if you ask me…he looked mighty bizarre too if you ask me.”
Ilan felt like screaming, WELL I WASN’T ASKING YOU WAS I, SO SHUT UP, yet he refrained from doing so and simply said, “Yeah, the whole situation was very strange.”
“You are a looker if you ask me”, she was changing the subject, “Do you got a girlfriend?”
He responded quick with a lie, “Yes I have one!”
“What’s her name?”
“Um…Raiko, I’m going to see her right now actually”, the lie grew larger and larger, “After we meet up we’re going to the park for a picnic and then to the movies.”
The lady scooted herself closer to Ilan, which took quite a bit of strength on her part. Now she was much closer, he felt her heavy breathing on his neck, “So, aren’t you gonna ask me some questions?”
“No thanks”, Ilan got up from his seat and found another, relatively far from the woman.
She held a constant glare on him until her stop came; she struggled from her seat and barely escaped the automatic doors. Ilan shook his head as she left then laid his head back on the glass behind him. He closed his eyes and waited patiently for his stop. The door to another car of the train opened, a man slowly crossed from that car to the one where Ilan was. In the man’s hands was a black case to an instrument. Ilan opened his eyes as the man came closer, he watched as the man placed the case on the floor. In a short amount of time, the man had opened the case and pulled out a violin. The instrument was black with a maroon lining, it grabbed Ilan’s attention and he watched as the man began to play. The same melody from the hospital sounded and filled the entire car of the train. Ilan found himself immersed in the melody and could not escape; he quickly realized that his body had become paralyzed. The man ceased playing, a sinister smile formed on his face, he set his instrument back in the case, and started towards Ilan. When he was right in front of Ilan he pulled a long and thin knife from his pocket, he lowered himself to Ilan’s level. In a raspy voice the violinist started, “My melody has caught even the ears of the Podam, and now you are frozen in its splendor. You have come to heal the world; however my associates and I cannot allow you to do so. I must say if you would simply die now, it would save us a lot of superfluous trouble.” Ilan struggled to form words in response but found himself unable to speak in his current state. The violinist raised the blade to the center of Ilan’s chest. He slowly pressed the blade forward, Ilan felt the sharp pain as it cut through his skin. Ilan released a screech of pain; he closed his eyes and prepared for death.
The train slowed to a halt with the squeal of the breaks, Ilan opened his eyes, the pain had ceased. It quickly became apparent that the whole ordeal had been nothing more than a dream. He stood up from his seat; the train had finally reached his destination. Ilan stepped off the train then quickly inspected his chest, to his delight there were no signs of actual injury. The train started once more and left Ilan, he made his way through platform and onto a flight of antiquated stairs. In a short amount of time, his footsteps brought him to the entrance of Onyx University. From where he stood it was a rather large building, which perfectly fit the title of University. As soon as he entered a man rushed at him, his uniform white suit indicated who it was: Mr. Fallows. A firm handshake accompanied by a warm smile was sent by Mr. Fallows, Ilan gladly accepted them. With pure excitement and curiosity he spoke, “I am so very pleased that you’re here Ilan, I was afraid you might have changed your mind.”
“Well I said I would come and I’m not too big on the whole lying to people thing.” He declared sarcastically.
“That’s a good quality, being truthful with a hint of sarcasm.”
Ilan laughed then started, “Yeah but there’s also my professional side Professor Fallows, so let’s get this ordeal sorted out.”
“Oh of course, we can speak in my classroom. Just follow me.” He replied then led Ilan through the lobby and into the actual campus. His classroom was on the second floor and was reasonably large. Ilan stepped in and looked around the room; it was rather like a cave, small at first then gradually bigger the further in. Several rows of long wooden desks were lined up from the center to the back of the classroom. Ilan and Mr. Fallows stood in the smaller area in front of the desks; it consisted of an open floor area, a long desk, a black stool, and a dry erase board that covered the wall.
“Impressive room, bigger than any I’ve ever been in at least.” Ilan said as he continued to peer around the room.
“Thank you, alright if you come this way I can show you some of my research.” Fallows led him to the desk at the front; he offered Ilan the stool however he declined. Several binders filled with papers were stacked on top of each other on the desk. Fallows grabbed the one on top and set it in front of Ilan, “These are numerous discoveries related to the Podam, I think you might find this interesting.” Ilan started through the pages, his eyes scanned through information and pictures of artifacts. Their locations varied from Great Britain to Egypt, Fallows watched happily as Ilan was immersed in the information.
After an hour or so Ilan set the last binder of papers down on the desk, he looked completely full on information. Fallows had been in and out of the room, he returned with coffee after Ilan had finished up. The professor smiled at Ilan, handed him a Styrofoam cup filled with coffee. Ilan gladly accepted it then started, “That was incredible...all of the things that have been happening are real. So there are others like me, I’m not the only Podam?”
A dismal expression formed on Fallows’ face as he spoke, “No, I’m sorry Ilan…you are the only Podam as of now.”
“Wait, how could that be? They couldn’t have all just disappeared.”
“You see, there can only be one Podam at a time. If two exist at the same time, the older Podam will inevitably die.”
Ilan was quiet for a moment as he thought, “I need to know something; I need to know if my parents died because of me.”
Fallows took a long gulp of coffee before he answered, “I’m not really sure, but it may be because of who you are. If one of your parents was a Podam, then he or she would’ve died from natural causes. If you don’t mind me asking, how did they die?”
“It was…a train accident, the train derailed and there were no survivors. When the police came to tell me what had happened, they couldn’t explain how the accident occurred. So it could’ve been my fault?”
“I highly doubt that it was your fault Ilan. Every time that a former Podam has died because of another was from a natural death. Perhaps it was just an accident; I’ll look into it if you want me to.”
“That would be nice, anyways let’s talk about something else now”, Ilan sat his coffee on the desk and looked at Fallows.
“Alright then, why don’t you show me some of your abilities”, Fallows inquired.
Ilan stared at him for a moment then started, “Um, I’m not really sure how to use them or if I even have them.”
“Every Podam has a number of abilities, let’s start small with imitation. I’m going to do something and I want you to copy me. Just focus on what I do, really concentrate on the task at hand, and you should do just fine.” A smile formed as he finished speaking, Fallows held out his right hand. Ilan duplicated his movement and watched intensely. The eyes of Fallows became fixed on his hand, as if there was something in it. Ilan looked at his hand and knew there was nothing in it, he felt rather childish. Within a few moments a minuscule light began to form in Fallows’ hands. He looked at Ilan and started, “You see, it’s a very simple thing to do.”
“Yeah, okay then…let me try.” Ilan looked at his hand; he concentrated very hard and pictured his goal in his mind. He did this for a few minutes but nothing happened. Fallows nodded for him to continue, he was called out of the room by a colleague a few moments later. Ilan quickly became frustrated at his failed attempts; no matter how hard he tried it wouldn’t work. After several more attempts he felt a slightly nauseous feeling in the pit of his stomach. Ilan fell off the stool and onto the ground; something began to swell up inside him. This feeling was similar to the one he felt in the dream where he had exploded, just much weaker. Even so, he felt something flowing through him that had to be released. He did the first thing that came to mind, he concentrated on his hand and focused on releasing the strange feeling within him. In a matter of a few seconds a bright light formed in his hand, much larger than the example given by Fallows. Ilan smiled and jumped to his feet, he then released a burst of laughter and excitement. However, his laughter soon faded as the light started to grow progressively. Within a few moments it had grown so large that he needed both hands to support it. He stared at the light and tried to reverse what he’d created. A strong surge of wind blew into the classroom, the binders on the desk were thrown to the ground, the stool fell over, and the desks slightly moved. The wind funneled into the center of the large sphere of light that Ilan held. As the light grew, the wind picked up its pace and strength. The desks around him began to slowly slide towards him, Ilan started to panic. In his panic he began to howl, “Help me, Mr. Fallows please help!” Little did he know, Mr. Fallows had been called down to another classroom, nevertheless he was heading back. The strong wind that was funneling into his classroom called his attention. He bolted towards the room; he was nearly sucked in as he reached the door. An expression of awe formed on his face as he saw what Ilan had created. Fallows noted with haste that Ilan was in need of assistance, he started cautiously towards the giant globe of light. He stopped when he was but a few feet away, the wind pushed heavily against his back. Fallows began to slide toward the large sphere; the light being emitted nearly blinded him. He raised his arms into the air as he as involuntarily approached the massive orb; he began to focus on the core of it. Within a few moments the sphere split in half, the light began to flow into his hands. The sphere of light shrank as it drained into the hands of Mr. Fallows, soon it had entirely dissipated. He lowered his arms and fell to his knees. Ilan was relieved to have the wait off his hands; he went to the aid of the professor. An apology sounded from the weakened Ilan, “I’m sorry, things just got a little out of hand.”
Fallows slowly stood back up with the help of Ilan and started, “Well…let’s just try and avoid it next time, I don’t think my classroom can handle another episode like this.” They both laughed after his words then started to put the room back together. When the room had been put back in place they went back to the matter of abilities. Ilan sat behind one side of a desk, Fallows sat opposite to him. “Alright now, try again…but this time, with less force.” Ilan nodded then focused on his hand, he felt the strange feeling inside once more. However, he felt as it grew and released it in a small amount. A small light, like the example given by Fallows, formed in his hand. “Now dismiss it”, Fallows instructed. Ilan focused again, reversing the flow of the strange force inside and the light vanished. With immense enthusiasm Ilan jumped up and shouted, “Yes I did it, man that was awesome!”
“Ha, well if you thought that was cool just wait until you see your other abilities. Through my studies I’ve come to understand that a Podam has a variety of various abilities including the imitation that you just pulled off. Once you have grown strong enough, you can even tap into the abilities of your predecessors.”
“Whoa, do you think I’ll ever be able to do that?”
“I believe so, after seeing that incredible burst of energy you displayed earlier I’d say so. I have to be at a meeting in about twenty minutes, so do you have any questions before I go?”
Ilan had a million questions but raised only one, “Alright, I’ve had various dreams but Raiko said they’re visions. So is that true, are they all just visions of what is to come?”
“Raiko, I assume, is one of the protectors?”
“Yes, I think she’s their leader.”
“Ah, well some are visions of what’s to come; others are just warnings to keep you safe, like a defense mechanism. “
“Oh, that explains all of my visions, even the one on the train…it felt so real.”
“Well they commonly do.”, He started, “Now what was the vision you had on the train?”
Ilan hesitated at first then told Fallows his vision of the violinist who attempted to kill him on the train. As he listened, Mr. Fallows took on a serious expression. “A violinist you say?” He asked rhetorically then continued, “You best be on guard at all times Ilan, practice this ability I’ve shown you and maybe even try learning new ones. I’ll give you the research with some abilities that other Podam’s have shown in the past. I’ll also investigate this violinist; well I have to go now. Thank you for meeting with me and we should definitely meet again.” Fallows grabbed one of the binders filled with research and handed it to Ilan; they shook hands then exited the room. They went their separate ways after a short goodbye; Ilan pulled out his phone and called Julia. The phone rang several times, there was no answer. He closed his phone and slid it back into his pocket; he wondered where she was then turned his thoughts to something else.
Julia opened the door to her glass shower and stepped in, the hot water felt pleasant on her skin. In the other room Reed laid on the bed with a turkey sandwich, he had the TV on some public broadcasting channel, i+t was a show on snakes across the world. As information about snakes told by some “nature man” flowed into Reed’s brain, the vibration of Julia’s cell phone sounded. Reed picked it up and saw that Ilan was calling; he looked at his name for a moment then slid the phone under the blankets of the bed. Reed was not particularly fond of Ilan, especially since he and Julia were so close. The voice of the “nature man” caught his attention, “The Cobra, one of the many venomous snakes of the world. In fact the cobra belongs to a family of venomous snake known as Elapidae. These snakes are perhaps the most noticeable of snakes but hardly the most common. They are known by their hoods that flare up when they are irritated or uneasy. However, these creatures will rarely attack when unprovoked, but when threatened, they will use their deadly force to its full potential. “Reed took in that little bit of information as he took another bite from his turkey sandwich. Julia stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her body; Reed turned his gaze to her as she entered the room. He smiled at her then started, “You like snakes?”
“Not really, but why do you ask?” She approached the bed.
“Well this show’s on and it’s pretty interesting, did you know that a Cobra will not attack unless it’s provoked?”
She gave him a confused look, “No, but I guess it’s good to know.”
Reed smiled, “Yeah, I just wanted to let you know in case you’re ever on a walk and you see one.”
“Yes, I’m very certain that I’ll see a Cobra in the suburbs”, she retorted sarcastically.
He laughed at her dry humor then grabbed the remote and changed the channel, “Okay, okay, enough about snakes…how about one of these over dramatic made for TV movies?”
She laughed as the title of the show appeared, “The Other Woman”, she made another joke then went back into the bathroom to dry off. Reed sat the remote on the bed; he finished his sandwich and watched as the made for TV movie began.
Relatively close to Onyx university existed a tall black building with a multitude of square windows. A white vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the building, the car shut off and Mr. Fallows stepped out shortly. He checked the time on his cell phone, his meeting with Ilan had gone longer than he’d originally planned. He quickly made his way into the building, the man at the front desk, Russ, greeted him with a raspy “good afternoon”. They clearly new each other, Fallows sent a short lived wave in his direction. His feet guided him to the elevator within a short time; he pressed the number for the 13th floor. The elevator glided upwards through the shaft and reached its destination with haste. Fallows stepped out from the elevator; the 13th floor was a wide open space with one office at the end of the room, opposite to the elevator. He made his way towards the office, the sound of his footsteps on the cement floor echoed throughout the expanse that was the 13th floor. Fallows reached the office; he now faced a large black door. As he reached for the handle of the door it was opened by a tall emaciated man with a thick beard. On the man’s shoulder was a patch of grey with a white number on it, his was the number three. The man moved out of the way and let Fallows enter; the man exited the room and shut the door. The office was rather large; it was filled with expensive furniture and sprinkled with rare artifacts. Opposite to the door was a large desk, covering it were neatly stacked papers, pictures of a family, and a slim computer monitor. Behind the desk sat a plump man with wide circular glasses, he wore a grey business suit with a dark blue tie. The man signaled for Fallows to sit with a nod of his head. In a serious tone the man asked, “How did everything turn out?”
“It went very well sir; he pulled off an imitation of my ability. He did have a mishap when he released too much energy but I dealt with it.”
“Good, so when do you think you’ll bring him in?”
“I need to get him to fully trust me; in the meantime I’ll help him develop his abilities. Once I’ve accomplished those two things, I will bring him in sir.”
“What of his protectors Mr. Fallows, what if they try to stop you?”
Fallows took in a deep breath then released it, “Then we’ll deal with them, it’s a rather problem to solve. Now I need to know which subject numbers I have access to.”
The man looked around the room for a second then to Fallows, “What numbers do you want?”
“I would like to have number two, six, nine, and also number eleven if at all possible.”
“No, eleven is in a very unstable position as of now, you can have six and nine…two is currently working with another group. They’re working on the hospital murders; we were informed of it late last night. We intercepted the distress call and now we’re handling it.”
“What hospital murders, why are we dealing with that?”
“It involved are associate, Dr. Thompson, he was one of the several victims. You have clearance to go check out the scene; I know that he was a close friend of yours.”
In a somber tone Fallows spoke, “Yes, we were close friends; I’ll probably go check it out.”
“Also, they may not need the services of number two, if so then you may use her.”
“Alright then, thank you for lending the service of the subject numbers to me sir. Is there anything else you wanted to ask or inform me about?”
The man stood up and held out his hand to be shaken, “No that’s all Mr. Fallows, as always it’s a pleasure.”
Fallows stood up and shook his hand, “It’s been awhile since I’ve been here, and it was a pleasure Mr. Richter.” After saying this he left the office, the echo of his shoes against the cement floor returned. The thin man with the number three stood to the side of the elevator. Once Fallows reached the elevator he looked at the man and sneered, “Number three…shave your beard, you look like a bum. This organization will do just fine without any bums hanging around elevators.” The man known as number three raised his middle finger to Mr. Fallows then started towards the office. Fallows released a slight snicker then turned to him as he walked away, “I’m serious, next time I see you…it better be gone or I’ll blind you.” Number three shot up both of his middle fingers and continued toward the office. Fallows entered the elevator and laughed as the doors slid shut. Within a few minutes Fallows found himself buckling his seat belt and starting up his car. He made his way to the hospital, when he arrived he noticed several black SUV’s populating the front parking lot. As he stepped out a young lady with dark brown hair in a pony tail and a woman’s business suit approached. She wobbled over to him in a pair of new black high heel shoes. He stared at her as she stopped in front of him. She cleared her throat and began, “Good afternoon Mr. Fallows.” Her voice was shaky, she was clearly nervous.
“Same to you miss…if you’ll excuse me.”
“Um…I am Olivia Ferris”, she held out her hand, “it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Same to you”, he shook her hand, “now if you’ll please excuse me.” Mr. Fallows tried to move past her but she stepped into his path.
“I was told by Mr. Richter to help you with any services you may need, maybe some coffee or…” She was cut off by the sound of his voice.
“No thank you, I need to go into the hospital and see exactly what’s happened. You can accompany me if you like, just to feel like you’re doing as told. Otherwise, I won’t need any of your services.” She nodded as he finished speaking, Mr. Fallows started towards the hospital. When he entered, the smell of death overflowed into his nose. Fallows reacted with haste and pulled out a tissue from his suit pocket, he covered his nose. Olivia mimicked his actions as the smell assailed her nose. The lobby of the hospital was full of people who were all very professional, in the way they dressed at least. Mr. Fallows searched the room, looking for the source of the stench. His eyes soon found the body of the lady at the front desk, Fallows turned to Olivia. “What happened here?”
“Oh, her name was Charlene Derough…she has multiple head wounds as if she was bashed repeatedly over the head. The weapon seems to have been this clipboard over here”, she explained as she pointed to the square board that was covered in blood. Fallows shook his head as he observed the body and the odd choice of weapon. A man, about the age of Mr. Fallows, grabbed Olivia’s shoulder. She turned to see the leader of the current operation, Oswald Vickens. Fallows turned to see him, they shook hands and Olivia was dismissed. “So you’ve seen the sixth victim, no doubt a very brutal death.”
Fallows stared at him for a moment, “Six death’s, I knew there was more than one victim, but six?”
“Yes, all were very brutal deaths, including that of our associate Dr. Thompson. Come with me Mr. Fallows, I’ll show you the rest of them.” He led Fallows down a hall to the elevator, inside was the body of Frank, the man who worked in the morgue. They observed him for a moment then used the stairs to reach the long hallway that led to the room where it all started. Two men were in the room, one was taking blood samples and the other was taking photos for documentation. Fallows and Vickens reached the room shortly; Fallows peered around the room in awe. The bodies of the three assistants caught his eye and then he saw Dr. Thompson, lifeless on the floor. “These were the first to happen, the assistants were first, Thompson was next, then Frank and Charlene up top. “
“This is terrible, how did this happen, do you have any idea who did this?”
Vickens turned to the man taking blood samples; the question was turned over to him. The man stood up and started, “This is a very odd case, even for our agency, I’ve found five types of blood in this room. Four are human and clearly belong to the four victims. However, this fifth blood type doesn’t match a human sample. Sure, it has similarities but for the most part it’s unidentifiable. I only found a few drops of this blood, meaning they must’ve wounded the attacker at some point.”
Fallows took in the information and thought for a few moments, he looked around the room then spoke, “When I was called here by Thompson he showed me a specimen they’d found in a nearby park. It resembled a human but was completely paralyzed…he said he was compiling a file consisting of all the information on the subject. I’m going to search his office. One more thing before I go, have you all reviewed the security tapes?”
Mr. Vickens nodded, “Yes, there was nothing strange until about three minutes before the estimated time of death. A low noise at first, then it grew until it resembled some kind of instrument. My first guess would be a violin, anyways, as the instrument played, the tape became fuzzy and then completely static.”
“Did you say a violin?” Fallows recalled the words of Ilan explaining the dream he had on the train. Vickens reassured him of his discovery; Fallows looked down to the ground then back to the eyes of his associate. “Alright, believe it or not, this isn’t the first I’ve heard of this violin. I’ll fill you in later; I’m going to Thompson’s office.” He started to leave when Mr. Vickens added one last thing.
“Number two is currently up there, she said she needed to be alone for it to work efficiently. That was a while ago though so go right ahead.”
Fallows nodded then exited the room, his feet led him to the office several floors up. When he reached the office he saw that the door was open and noticed a young woman standing in the middle of the room. From behind, her short and slim body made her appear much younger than her actual age. This was number two; she was around the same age as Ilan, nearly twenty one years old. She wore a long black shirt and black dress pants; in the right corner of her shirt was the number two. Her hair was short and light brown with several blond streaks, her eyes were dark blue. She stood in place and surveyed the room; she was looking for something in particular. When he stepped into the office she started, “Hello Mr. Fallows, having a good day, well amongst all this death it isn’t possible I suppose.” She turned around to see Fallows, a mixture of a smile and a frown formed on her face.
“Good guess, I see that your ability is expanding. I’m interested in seeing much more of it though; say I needed help finding a file made by Dr. Thompson.”
“Alright, a file…ah, the one he was compiling for you?”
“Yes, very good…now use your ability to find the file.” After hearing this she closed her eyes for a moment, when she reopened them, the pupil was greatly dilated and pale. Her vision was now unique, instead of seeing the present she witnessed the past. She needed to search in reverse to find the exact point when the file was put away. Number two watched as time reversed then stopped when Thompson appeared at his desk. She watched as he looked through the file, only a few minutes before his death. When he finished, Thompson put the file in his file cabinet under the heading “Podam Findings”. She closed her eyes again and when she reopened them her eyes had returned to normal and she viewed the present once more. Number two opened the file cabinet and located the file with ease, she handed it off to Fallows.
“That was very impressive, you’ve learned a lot in a short amount of time Number two. Do you have any other services for Mr. Vickens; if not then I require them.”
“Not that I’m aware, I’ll speak with him about it and contact you later on if I can. Have a good day Mr. Fallows; hopefully I’ll be working with you in the near future.” She left the room and headed towards the stairs then down to the main lobby. Fallows held the file close and made his way back to his car, in a few moments he began the long journey to his home.
From the roof of the hospital Raiko watched as Fallows departed. She was accompanied by her five allies; they waited for her to speak. Raiko turned to them and started, “I am beginning to become concerned about this Fallows, he’s very mysterious and has abilities. Also, he has the trust of the Podam now, something we have failed to do entirely. We need to take a different approach; firstly we need to fit in a little more. That way we can actually be seen around the Podam, if we dress like all these other people then he might feel more comfortable. Ruso and Kira, I want you to find some appropriate attire for us. Secondly, we need to find a way to gain Ilan’s trust so we can protect him. His trust is the most important thing, Ferinous and I will handle that part. Lastly, I want Micah and Geriuk to keep a watchful eye on Fallows.”
The rebellious Ruso started, “Why do we have to get clothes, and how come everyone else gets a good mission?”
Ferinous responded, “Please don’t start this again, Raiko is our leader and what she says goes.”
“Shut up Ferinous, I wasn’t asking you. I don’t care what you have to say, if I want your input I’ll ask for it.”
Raiko shouted, “Enough, Ruso you need some time to get your head together. I know you’re upset about losing Taurus but you need to end this quarrel with Ferinous.”
“I can’t, not when I know that he’s responsible for what happened to Taurus! He’s always trying to act superior to me and ordering people around…but I don’t have to do a damn thing he says.”
The young man with messy dark blue hair named Micah snapped at her, “Watch your tongue Ruso; you’re not the only one who’s worried about Taurus. Right now we need to focus on the task at hand and you need to calm down.”
Ruso tightened her fist and looked around at her surrounding partners. Micah held a firm gaze at her, the young Kira sighed and looked away, the muscular and bald Geriuk turned away from her, and Ferinous held a frustrated look about him. Her gaze finally met that of Raiko’s, she was solemn and calm. Ruso stared at her for a moment then lowered her head, “I’m sorry once again Raiko…I will follow my orders.” She lifted her head then turned away from Raiko, tears started to flow down her face. Raiko held a calm disposition but through her eyes Ruso could see nothing but a feeling sheer disappointment. Ruso wiped away the tears then headed to the edge of the roof then shouted, “Let’s go, we’ve got some shopping to do.” She jumped off the building and landed softly on the concrete below. Kira followed shortly after, Micah and Geriuk nodded to their leader then disappeared, leaving Raiko and Ferinous alone. Raiko looked at Ferinous then shook her head.

“I’m sorry Raiko; she just frustrates me so much. It was foolish of me to speak out of turn; from now on I’ll let you handle it.”
“I just wish that there could be complete stability in this group, I don’t want to fail this world. The previous guardians of the Podam never had problems like this, it’s because their leaders were strong and I am weak.”
Ferinous placed his hand on her shoulder, “You aren’t weak Raiko, I will try my best to avoid any further arguments with her. Well I guess we should go, we have are own mission to accomplish.”
Raiko looked into his eyes, “Thank you Ferinous, you’ve always been by my side and supported me through tough times. Alright, let’s head to Ilan’s house, with any luck we’ll gain his trust.” Within a few minutes they leapt from the roof onto the ground below, both landed softly on their feet. They cloaked themselves from ordinary human eyes then made their way to Ilan’s house.
Ilan arrived at his home, still disappointed in not being able to reach Julia immediately. All of the new information filled his head, he needed to tell someone. Ilan made his way to his couch; he started to reach for the remote then stopped. With a grin he began to think about his abilities and the “what if” question popped into his head. He pointed his hand at the remote and focused, the strange feeling started in his stomach. Once it reached a certain level he released it while focusing on moving the remote. He felt a force flow from his hand to the remote, it started to shake; he released a shout of excitement. He continued to release the flow of energy and channeled it towards the remote. Within a few moments the remote lifted from the table and glided over into his hand. He clenched it tightly; he couldn’t believe what he had accomplished. In a swift movement he grabbed his cell phone and dialed Julia’s number, he had to reach her. After a few rings she answered, “Hey Ilan, what’s up?”
“I need to see you as soon as possible, something’s happened.”
“Are you okay, do you need help”, she asked with concern.
“Oh yeah, I’m fine…it’s got nothing to do with my health at all. I just need someone else to see this and you’re the person I trust the most.”
“Aw, thank you Ilan, alright I’ve been at work for about a couple hours so I’ll be off in awhile. So I guess I can come over afterwards if it’s really important.”
“Important, what I have to show you will change everything you know! So yes, this is very important.”
She assured him that she would come over after work and hung up the phone. Only a few moments later her phone began to ring, she picked it up and gave a short “hello”.
Reed’s voice sounded, “Julia, I made reservations at that Italian place we love for tonight after you get off. So leave room for dinner during your lunch break.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry Reed. I already have plans, Ilan has something he really needs to show me so I told him I’d come over. I’m sorry, maybe next week.”
“It’s okay”, he lied. “I’ll just call in and cancel it; well I guess I’ll see you after you see him. Have a good day and be safe, I love you.”
“Thank you Reed, I love you too.” They said their goodbyes then ended the conversation. Reed closed his phone and released a deep breath of frustration. He threw his phone on the ground and crossed his arms, he felt as if he’d become less important to her. His frustration against Ilan had been growing for quite some time. Ilan and Julia had been friends longer than he had dated her, at first he didn’t mind Ilan. However, Julia seemed to choose Ilan over himself on several occasions. His reservation to the restaurant had been a heartfelt gesture and he felt almost betrayed. He grabbed the remote and turned the TV off; he’d watched TV almost all day. Reed got out of bed and got dressed, he picked up his phone as he headed downstairs to the kitchen. In a rushed pace, he made a turkey and cheese sandwich then took a huge bite out of the side of it. Reed would calm down by eating. He pulled out his phone and reluctantly called the restaurant to cancel the reservation. After ending his call he finished his sandwich, he hoped that eating would calm him down. However, he couldn’t help but feel frustrated about the situation. In fact, he almost felt threatened by Ilan; this feeling reminded him of the show on snakes that he’d watched earlier. A string of information he’d learned from the show ran through his head, “…these creatures will rarely attack when unprovoked, but when threatened, they will use their deadly force to its full potential.” He quickly discarded the comparison of himself to a Cobra; the last thing he wanted was a confrontation with Ilan. After a while he calmed down and returned to watching the television

I did make one change, its just that the remote shatters into pieces instead of floating to his hand, shows that he has little control over his powers.
