Lost in the Shadows

Rya just couldn’t hold in her anger any longer as she jumped from tree to tree. How could it happen? How could she have lost her temper like that in front of so many demons? It was as if she was being tortured under their hateful gazes waiting for her to screw up again so that they could glower over her even more. She wasn’t one of them, and she never wanted to be. But she had no choice but to live with the fact that she would never fit in with those self-righteous demons. Finally sensing a low level demon near by she launched off her perch and began to unleash her anger towards the poor creature that dared come across her path of destruction.

Somewhere near by…

“SIT!” Yelled a young woman with long black tresses flowing over her shoulders as she glared at the newly formed, body shaped crater before her in anger. “Damn it! Why do you do that? You stupid wench!” Another male voice called from the depths of the crater, obviously being the one to have created it in the first place. “SIT! SIT! SIT!” The woman cried out again without giving the poor creature a chance. A low moan and several growls accompanied this. Another woman came up cautiously behind her friend, not daring to come any closer to the enraged woman’s wrath. “Kagome? Perhaps he has suffered enough? After all, he did save us back there you know.” The woman named Kagome gave a glare so great that it would make even the creature in the crater cower towards her unsuspecting friend. “I don’t care if he saved us or not! He was still spying on us while we were bathing!” She turned back to the crater where two hands and a pair of silver ears could be seen coming back out. “You pervert! SIT!” She yelled once again before crossing her arms and storming in the opposite direction. ‘Stupid dog!’ How dare he do such a thing as to peep in on her and Sango bathing in a hot spring and then go and ”rescue” them from a harmless, low level, and dead demon like that! She fumed in silence as a thought assaulted her senses. Where had the flying carcass come from? Her senses hadn’t felt anything more than the usual number of lowly demons and with the force and the damage dealt to the poor creature it had to have been killed by a very powerful, (or very angry) demon. Again she sent out her miko powers in search of anything intending to do them any harm and after nearly giving up she felt a slight demonic aura not too far from her position on the hill rise.
It was very upset and was probably looking for a good fight to clear away its anger but as soon as Kagome felt the creature’s hatred it was replaced with the cold and reserved feeling the she usually got from Sesshomaru. But that wasn’t what frightened her, it was the fact that the demon was coming right at her at a very high rate that scared her witless. ‘Oh no. What have I gotten into now?’ Kagome thought as she stood there waiting for her demise. But the blow would never come. The demon had stopped just a few yards in front of her with a curious look about it. Kagome was suddenly very curious as to why this obviously powerful demoness wasn’t chopping her to bits yet. The woman in front of her was tall and elegant, with flowing black and white hair that reached past her hips. Her face was angled and intelligent looking, but it was her eyes that held Kagome most. They were a strange set of crimson, but as she looked closer, Kagome saw traces of molten gold flowing over the strange but beautiful eyes. There was something about the woman in front of her that made Kagome extremely curious to know why she was here but somehow knowing that the answer lay hidden within the confines of the demoness’s mind. Eventually Inuyasha would pick up on the woman’s scent and there would be a big fight between them so, despite her common sense to run and get help, Kagome simply sat down in a huff at the thought of Inuyasha.
The woman slightly inclined her head to the side as she watched. Rya was simply confused to this strange human female and it was slightly amusing to watch the girl’s emotions flow over her face so quickly. Suddenly Rya remember who the female reminded her of, that good for nothing miko Kikyo who tried to justify the killing of her pack by saying that they were a curse upon the world. Anger threatened to flare again as Rya fought with her raging emotions behind a clam mask of indifference. Silently shrugging to herself, Rya slowly walked forward so as not to unsettle the young intriguing miko up onto the rise. “You shouldn’t be here.” Was all the miko said to her as she approached. “Inuyasha will sniff you out and try to kill you with the others so you better leave soon.” Rya tried to hide the smirk playing at her lips as she crouched down next to the miko. “He will not find me unless I wish to be found miko.” Rya calmly explained, scanning the horizon with ever watching eyes, her velvety black fox ears catching every sound within her range. “Why did you not purify me the moment you saw me miko?” She asked still looking to the horizon. The girl took her time to answer though. “Because you neither evil or pure. You simply are and since you did not kill me instantly and you didn’t seem to want to kill me I let you live.”
That caused a slight chuckle from Rya, who received a confused look in return. “I believe that you are the only one right now who believes that miko. For you are right; I simply am. I have but one purpose and that is to exist, to survive and live through my years as every other being does.” For several moments they just sat in silence until one of Kagome’s friends called for her to return. “You should go to them. We shall meet again soon if that is what you wish.” Rya stood and began to walk away in proud silence but the woman’s voice stopped her. “Wait! Why don’t you come with me? I’m sure that it would be much more fun than being by yourself.”
