Somalian Pirates
I doubt any of you are aware of the current threat of Somalian pirates. They are modern day ship raiders, and have been escaping extermination due to today's over civilized policies. These pirates hijack all forms of seacraft often killing the crew, and because of current human rights policies they are never really punished. They are shipped back to thier country of origin if thier homeland will not inforce harsh punishment. In otherwords, we basicly protect these savages from any form of repromandation. In the case that we don't send them back to were they came from, the government just confenscates whatever property we can prove they stole, which often is quite little. A handful of articles that I found quite interesting on this topic can be found here. None of this is just a fun story, it's reality.

Highlights:

-Our new warships
Really unrelated to piracy, but interesting nonetheless.

-U.S.A. Hires Mercenaries

-Pirates treated with love and care
Pointers: The somalian on the right is holding a grenade launcher mod for the american assault rifle, M-16 carbine. To the left is a man with the carbine.

-The "Mothership" of one pirate organization
This is a modern day destroyer, that of which the US (and many other countries) currently has in service. How the hell did they manage to capture one of these? Proves that these pirates are a real threat.

-Two Pirates die
Look! Apperantly the queen and her RN know how to solve a problem, and "dared" to use an international rules of engagement policy, unlike the US.

-No Progress, wasted cash
-(same idea)
-Even more of the same idea
After spending likely trillions on developing the technology, it looks as if we're not going to be using it. This isn't the only example of mis-invested cash, we have hundreds of F-22s sitting around airbases, each costing 250,000,000$, and not one has ever been used besides for testing, pilot training, and demonstrations.
-Oh, and additionally on spending, the US is developing guided bullets, and if you think deep into it as I do you will understand how pointless it is. I can explain exactly why, just would prefer not to in this entry. Ask if you want to know.

-Not Our Problem
Just like World War 1 and 2, not our problem, until you blow up our ships. Then we give you hell.

-Randsoms
Somalia's key to a good economy.

Conclusion:
It is true that these pirates are a real threat, but to whom? It would appear that as long as our merchant ships going around the cape of good hope are protected by escorts or mercanaries then there is little to worry about. But if we do lose a ship, I can assure you that it's going to hit the media hard and when it does the radicals are going to b***h about it.

My percieved chain of events:
Obama (if he passes a legal birth certificate to be inaugurated) will have to deal with it, and most likely he will try to talk the pirates to death his whole term. After that, everyone is fed up with getting nowere that a republican is elected as president and we blow the hell out of every somalian we see. The media will keep the radicals happy by telling everyone that nobody is dying. Once the radicals finally figure out the truth, the media will most likely change and start panicing everyone by announcing a death count that is in fact smaller then the number of kamikazes who died in WWII (less then 4,000). To compare that, 27,528 died at Iwo Jima. After that, we will probably end up stuck in there like Iraq because we think the pirates have nuclear weapons.

Well, that was a horrible waste of my (and likely your) time.
