Once upon a time...
There was a girl who was tough as nails. One day this girl met a man. Every night they would go out walking and would share their minds and hearts. Often their talks would go into the early hours of the morning.
They spoke of their dreams and fears, their glories and their pains. They grew to trust each other very much. One late, snowy night, the girl could no longer keep the only secret that she had ever held from him, "I love you".
She into his eyes and found a mixture of fear, regret, shock and gratefulness. His only response was "Thank you". They continued their walks.
Every night they would continue to walk and talk and every night she would once again say "I love you" and every night was the same mixture of regret and gratefulness in his eyes as he replied "thank you".
One day the girl found out that she would have to leave. That night the girl explained the situation to the man and waited for his response. "I love you. You are my best friend". That night they made a vow to always be there for each other, even from great distances apart. That night they walked past dawn and into the late hours of the morning. When they parted for the last time the girl did not know what to say. After many tears they looked at the man looked at the girl while he still held her in his arms "Always friends". She looked back at him "As long as that's what makes you happy. I will always love you." Again the same mixture of emotions swirled through his eyes. "I will always be your friend. I'm sorry that I could not offer more". She wiped away a tear as she heard this and in a quiet voice replied "As long as you are happy I'll be alright".
And so the two parted ways. As the girl left the man she knew that he held the only possession she had left to her name. Her heart. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years. Her heart still belonged to this wonderful man. She would wait and watch over this man. As long as he was happy, she would survive.
