So you've no doubt seen myriads of depictions concerning the appearance of angels to a li'l group of shepherds in Israel during the height of the Roman Empire, telling said shepherds that a Savior had just been born.
Do you honestly think that those sheep saw the sudden multitude of the heavenly host (or heard them for that matter, as they were all singin' a whole bunch) and just kept lying there like, "Yeah, that's chill"?
Seriously.
You know those sheep were running around, baa-ing like crazy (thought it's possible no one heard them over the spectacle of the angels), tipping over and kicking frantically, etc. I mean, wouldn't you be freaking out like that if you were a sheep suddenly being exposed to so much light and noise? For real, now. Even with just the angels' song, why is this scene even included in the carol "Silent Night"?
Granted, how silent were ANY of the scenes in the Nativity? But that's a different discussion altogether.
