[The Curiosities of [strike]Suzumiya Haruhi[/strike] Hanaba Kin]
Arashi no Kiri (Pen's zanpakuto)
Kanji: 嵐の霧 (Mist of the Storm)

Arashi, as Pen nicknamed him, grew and changed alongside her, and has now taken its permanent form. And much like Pen, Arashi is fun-loving yet can be cocky about their acts.

To the eyes of a human, and seen as most often, Arashi is nothing but a rapier. He is only slightly longer than the average spanish blade of its kind, just by about 2/5 of a foot. However, despite being sharp and long, this blade is also incredibly light and even airy, says those who've had the chance to hold it, as if they were holding paper.

This is because Arashi was born according to Pen's reiatsu type and her own fighting style: "Speed means everything."

In design, Arashi no Kiri is as complex as a rapier can be. At least, for its hilt. Starting from the base of it, there is a bubble for the hand to fit in with holes in a kind of polka dot pattern. At the fringe, the bubble dissipates now more into a fruit with its side popped open. Here, the handle sticks out in an intricate design, similar to a pair of vines.

In itself, the hilt is made of gold and the handle of iron: a metaphor to how Pen may appear glorious yet even a little vain on the outside, but on the inside she's a Vizard to be reckoned with and knows where she is [so to speak].

Very rarely does Pen have to use Arashi's shikai. When she does, the transformation is as spectacular as the end result:

The blade of the rapier begins to break down into a semi-mist form, then increasing its own length to double its original size. The hilt becomes smaller and more like silver, but the "popped" fringe remains. Overall, Arashi becomes "Harikeen no Kiri," a spear-rapier hybrid. This is where Pen's better speed play comes in.

As Pen lunges the sword like a spear or a javelin, it dissolves and reappears in Pen's hand to use again and again. And although it flies at a high speed, it's not that well-built for air travel [quite ironically]. However, for fencing and swordplay, Harikeen is superb. Because it can become semi-solid, an ability in shikai form, the rapier is deadly if used correctly. But that's never the case, right?
