The Economical and Social Comitee of Gaia (me) has published the list below of ways to gain and mantain your gold:
To Earn Gold:
1. Play Games, especially zOMG, as you collect recipies which you can use to craft expensive items that can be sold in the market.
2. Play normal games
3. Post at least once per day in Forums and/or Journal.
4. Use all the Daily Chances.
5. Go to Towns for a While and Shake trees.
6. Buy cheap, sell High.
To Multiply your Fortune
1. Hoard limited editions items. In other words, Monthly Collectibles and Evolving Items.
2. Wait at least 2 months before selling the items you horaded above.
3. Invest gold on items which you think might be more expensive in the future.
4. Gaia Cash: If you have Gaia Cash try buying Saving Bundles and sell the items either separatly or in bundle.
