Description: User Image
To say that Lorelai is delicate would be an understatement, standing five foot six at ninety-eight pounds, the young woman is incredibly fragile. As a proper lady of breeding, Miss Harper has been exposed to the bare minimal of sunlight, often staying indoors and being shaded by a parasol whenever she would venture outside. It is because of this careful avoidance to sunlight that her coloring is so unnaturally pale, but it also makes her large green eyes all the more vivid. Lorelai’s mouth is full but small, often accented with a neutral shade of red lip paint. Her hair, when uncovered, is a pale brown that is always done up. She keeps her hair accessories to a minimum, preferring to wear it in tightly curled ringlets underneath a veil with a small but attractive ornament on top. This stems from modesty and practicality because it is simple to then tie a bonnet over her hair when out in public.

Her attire is befitting of one of her status. As the daughter of Chief Inspector Harper, she experiences a moderate amount of luxury and while not overly ornate, her dresses are well made. She prefers to wear light to moderate shades of cream with brocades patterned in greens, reds, browns, whites, and golds. Aside from her mother’s antique cameo brooch, she prefers to wear simple jewelry, careful to keep her earrings elegant but understated.

History
Lorelai was born the second child, and first daughter, to Randall and Kathryn Harper. Two years after her brother Edmund Harper, and three years prior to Holden Harper. As a child she had very little interaction with her parents. Her father was constantly working, a brilliant Inspector on the force, and her mother had always been quite ill before her death. Instead, like many other children of the middle-upper class, she was raised by her nanny, Vanessa Partridge, and, later, tutored and cared for by her governess, Cadence Mulroney.

She lived a very sheltered life, not only because of her gender and social standing, but because of her father’s fear for her (and her siblings’) safety. Her mother had died young, not long after giving birth to Holden. While she was told it was because of complications due to childbirth, she heard rumors from the servants that there was foul play involved with the mysterious midwife (who, after the unfortunate passing of Missus Harper disappeared without a trace). There was never an official investigation but after Kathryn Harper’s passing, but in these dark times, whispers are truth enough.

Chief Inspector Harper was never quite the same after his wife’s passing, he became obsessed in his work. When he wasn’t out in the field or at the station he was often locked in the study of the manor. It was here that Lorelai learned far more then she could from her governess, whose choice in studies pertained only to languages, mathematics, and art. She would bring her father his tea every evening and, though dismissed, watch her father work on whichever case he had brought home for the night. While Harper knew that his daughter stood quietly observing in the corner, he never made mention of her presence and let her stay in silence.

While she never outwardly spoke of her findings gained from observing, she would leave a note on her father’s desk after he went to bed. He would then, in turn, address the mistakes of the observations out loud, seemingly to himself, the next evening when she resumed her place in the corner. This silent tutorial continued on even as her brother, Edmund, joined them. As with her father, she would quietly write her observations and opinions down for her brother. Edmund, however, addressed the matter more directly at times, occasionally seeking out Lorelai for her opinion.

Despite helping with her father and brother’s cases, Lorelai keeps to the society’s norm of being seen and not heard. She doesn’t speak her opinion unless directly spoken to, and takes admonishment in stride. She remains reserved even with her female friends and is always in the company of chaperone. She feels as though she must be the every obedient and dutiful daughter in memory of her late mother, who in her passing, has set a standard of perfection that only the departed can achieve.

It is because of this quiet passivity that Lorelai only expresses her talent at observation and memory, outside the study in the manor, by playing the little detective game that was located in the daily newspaper.
