"Don't try to be a strong all the time. But don't let yourself weep in to front of the world for pity."
Ashley's eyes knitted themselves together. "Vladdi, why are we here? Didn't you say we were going to my house?"
Vladimir nodded. "By golly, I did. But I figured this place would be easier for you and your friends to comprehend how big of a situation you four are getting at."
"We're not friends," Rafael muttered, rolling his eyes, "We have nothing to do with each other. I'm just here because I think this will be fun."
Her heart suddenly felt ten times heavier, like someone took a weight, and put right on top of the muscle. And it hurt. So she snapped, "You idiot. OCA will kill you for your orb. Kill you. This is not fun and games, Rafael, this is a place where, if the wrong person steps in, you could be dead." The vemon leaked when she said his name.
Vladimir could feel the pain radiating off her. The ogre sighed, and came between the two glaring teens. "Children, children. Let's not worry about that yet, hm?"
"Do people," Michelle's eyes were wide, "really die... for orbs?" she asked, trying to take in this new world with courage, but failing slightly.
The Hawaiian shirt-clad man said nothing, and made a beeline for the door. He opened it, and said, "Come. We are late to meet the CEO/Vice president."
"And that would be, if not you...?" Ashley questioned, feeling suspicion. Her mother would have chosen someone close to be VP and CEO, so she had to know. Vladimir was a highly trusted family friend, so if it wasn't him, who could it be? Her mother barely trusted anyone with anything; she was the type of person who it was her way or the high way, and it had to be done perfectly her way. (It's probably why her mother was president, being such a perfectionist.)
Vladimir smiled his signature smile. "You'll see, Ms. Ashley."
Rafael glanced around, hands still dug into his pockets.
The place sure was nice: glass made up the entire four walls of the building, and their were two large sitting areas with dark brown leather seating. There were several people sitting and reading, while some were sleeping. But when Vladimir passed them, they all seemed to spring up, and say, "Good afternoon Mr. van Duuke!" Even the plants in the corner that sat near the window seemed to turned towards him direction, and smile. The white paint on the walls that made up a couple cubicles made the plants glow, adding on to the creepiness.
Other than that, it seemed they were heading towards the reception's desk, which was directly across the building from the entrance. The area was made up a half circle desk and a had a color scheme of red wood and oak, or red and yellow. A woman with honey blonde hair, and large brown eyes looked up, and smiled widely when she noticed Vladimir. Genuinely.
"Oh, Mr. van Duuke! You're back! Mrs. Schooss is waiting for you in her office." Unknown to Rafael and Ashley, Michelle
"Thank you, Emily. Have a pleasant day!" He tipped his imaginary hat at her, and Emily smiled back. He started for the elevator.
"Thank you! You too, Mr. van Duuke! Children!" Rafael looked at her strangely, and wondered why she was so friendly.
There was something wrong with this picture, and he as determined to find out. He felt a small warm feeling in his chest.
"...as I pledge to be honorable, and true, bring the fire in and let wrong start anew with the cinders that bring the world back to life..."
It can't be, Michelle thought. It couldn't be! It must be someone with the same name, surely... Michelle tried to convince herself, knowing her tries were in vain. There were only a few people named, "Schooss," and one of them just so happened to be-
"My mother," Michelle whispered miserably. But it couldn't be true! There was no way.
As the five of them entered the elevator, and as the carrier went up, Ashley stared at her, worried.
Ashley nudged her. "Hey, Michelle. Are you all right?"
Michelle shook her head. "N-No..." she admitted, "I'm not."
"What's wrong?"
White hair stuck itself in between the two whispering girls. "Hello there."
"Vladdi!" Ashley cried softly, jumping back.
Michelle stood still. Vladimir grinned at Ashley, but patted Michelle's head. He whispered. "She'll tell you everything, don't worry." Michelle said nothing, but her shoulders visibly relaxed at the audio comfort.
Ashley still looked worried, but so much, before she let her eyes wander to Kylee, who was just staring at her, as she said quietly, "What are you hiding...?" Her eye brows were scrunched up slightly, and brown eyes realized Kylee's darker ones were not looking at her, but somewhere deeper than surface.
But before Ashley could question her, they were at their destination: floor number 35, the office of Mrs. Schooss.
