I was at Borders today and found a Bonsai kit. I used to have a Bonsai tree when I was younger but I didn't know how to take care of it and it died. So I decided to buy this kit seeing as it was under $10 and if it dies on me or I can't get it to grow, I'll only be out a small amount of money.
So this kit comes with everything you need to get started growing your very own Bonsai tree. This little package included 5 seeds(I think there was supposed to be six though), a peat pellet, scissors, a pot, and a small booklet containing instructions and some interesting info about the science and art of Bonsai.
The steps to planting this little thing is actually a lot more complicated then you would think...
step 1: soak the seeds in water for 24 hours
step 2: cold stratify the seeds in the refrigerator for 7 days
step 3: add water to the peat pellet and allow it to expand
step 4: spread the seeds over the peat pellet and place the peat pellet in the pot
step 5: set the pot in a window and wait for the seeds to sprout
This is just to get your seeds to sprout. It doesn't go much into what you do afterwards. As of now I am only on step 1. Tomorrow I will begin step 2 and refrigerate those little suckers for a week.
