A Light in the Dark By: Selene_of_the_sand
Chapter One
I stole out of the dark ally and onto the street as a cart passed, a bead of sweat rolling slowly down my forehead as I walked through the dimly lit street and towards the castle. The heavy clanking of metal plates alerted me to a guard coming around the corner. I got nervous as the clanking sped up into what seemed like a nervous trot. The guard passed me with a nod and continued on when I passed the corner.
The inn I was heading to came into view and as I passed the ally that lead behind the inn I shrank into the shadows. A soft moan escaped my lips as I shrank into a littler form. Changing always gave me a pleasant feeling. I shrank and shrank until I was only a little squirrel. I climbed slowly up a tree and into a window. The visitors staying in the inn were all asleep as I found the money bag of the rich nobleman that was sleeping quietly and took it. It felt heavy as I tried to pull it out the window. Looking down to see no one was coming I dropped the bag with a thunk to the ground. I ran down the tree and changed back into a human. Running down the alley toward my home that was a hollowed out tree with a small hole in the trunk.
I looked around quickly for the guard that was supposed to be on duty. Seeing that he was yet to make his round I ran to my tree and dropped the bag into my tree hole in the towns square. Changing into a garden snake, I slithered down the hole and to my house. After moving down the small hole and came into a bigger chamber I changed back into my human form. My hair a mixture of gold, brown, black, and red all the different pelt colors, My eyes sappier blue, and deep, brightly colored with specks of red, green and brown. I walked over to the table on which the brightly colored blue bag sat. A blood red âVâ was sewn into the side. Opening the pull strings and dumping out the coins I watched as the condense spilled over the roughly carved table and out fell 5 wolfs, 10 mice, 16 hawks and 8 calicos.
This nobleman must have either been a tax collector or some kind of land owner. I counted all of my money together I had 20 wolfs, 30 mice, 80 hawks and 15 calicos. I finally had enough to move out of the city and into the country. My collective piles of money bags I chose a copper colored one with a silver âKâ in the side. Putting all my coins into the bag I slipped it into a bigger saddlebag along with nuts and dried fruits, as well as cloths.
