Melissa slammed the door as she walked out on her father's shouts. She was tired of listening to him. She stayed out in the hall for a moment but then thought it'd be safer to go outside. Her father could come out any second and drag her back inside and she didn't want to get smacked around either. She walked outside and immediatley her breath was turned into crystalized puffs of air in the cold. It had snowed the other day and alot of it was still on the ground. Melissa folded her arms and thought that maybe she could go back inside abd grab her coat. SMASH! There goes one of the dinner plates. she thought. Getting her coat didn't seem like an option now. She walked by the kitchen and dining room windows and crouched as she walked by the living room windows. The "For Sale" sign seemed top sneer at her as she walked past the front of the three floor building. Damn b***h. she thought. Her family's land lord had sold the last building and then had moved them into where they were living now. Two weeks later she had shown up with people wanting to see the house. She hadn't told them she had been selling this one too. Melissa kicked the snow as she walked, watching it explode into the ice crystals that they used to be. She walked down the street and started to do what she called her "rounds". She walked around alot and she walked around places that were familiar to her. But since people that she knew lived around where she wanted to walk she couldn't do her usual stuff. There would be talk in school if Matt or Teressa saw her walking around without a coat in the beginning of winter. It isn't even that cold out. thought Melissa as she walked down one of the side streets that led to her old house. She had liked that apartment, with its porch and her painting hanging up on her bedroom wall. Now her bed barely fit into her new bedroom and the new house only had a pair of steep steps and her paintings had been replaced by some dragon pictures that she had printed off the Internet and taped onto the back of her door. Melissa shivered a little bit. Okay, so maybe it is a little cold. she admited to herself. The CVS was around the corner. She fould probably walk around in there while she defrosted herself. She walked inside and walked around while she warmed up. After a while though the cashiers started to giveher the evil eye when they saw she wasn'y buying anything so she walked out. Melissa looked around the parking lot and then decided to use the side way. She walked through the parking lot and to the part that was used for deliveries. She started to walk down the fire truck lane when she heard a rustle in the bushes beside her. She paid no attention; Providence was full of both rats and wild cats. But when a guy stepped out from the bushes, Melissa was taken completely off guard. She stood there for a moment to analyze him. He seemed about her age but he looked like he wasn't exactly....human. With the pale skin and blindingly white hair, she would of thought he was an albino if it weren't for the dark pools of grey that were his eyes. He took a step toward her and she turned to run. Stop. The thought slipped through her like an ice knife and held her where she stood. She wanted to move but her body wouldn't. The boy walked the three feet that were between him. He smiled, showing white teeth and pointed canines. "Hello Melissa." he said. "I'm here to set you free."
Melissa walked down the street back to her house. She wasn't cold anymore and she felt calm as she crunched through the snow. She licked the top half of her teeth and felt her new fangs. Silver had made sure that the change had been quick and painless, unlike his which he had told her. He had also told her that she would need to feed in the morning and that the myth of sunlight lighting vampires on fire was false. Although it gave them headaches if they stayed out in it too long. She stopped in front of her house, listening for her father. It was quiet but she thought she heard the faint sound of weeping coming from her father's room. Maybe I shouldn't make him my first meal. she thought. She may hate sometimes but he was still her dad. Melissa looked the house over. The "For Sale" sign blared at her from the front of the building. She turned and walked down the street in the direction of her landlord's house. She had a little surprise for Ms.Cortez....
