Chapter 3: Ms. Frelox's House
Chapter 3:
Ms. Frelox’s House

Hmmmmm, Jade thought, Sean will be here in about half an hour, I better hurry up and pick an outfit. Earlier she had peaked at what Violet was wearing, a purple tank top with an olive green jacket over it, and a pair of dark blue jeans. It looked plain on anybody but Violet, it was such a beautiful outfit on her, Jade tried to put her jealous feelings behind her. In the end Jade decided on a red checkered short-sleeve, button-up shirt, which complimented her dark hair. For pants she decided on some faded light blue jeans that were torn at the knees. She put a red checkered bandana that matched her shirt in her hair. Lynn had always complimented the way that the red had looked against her ghostly white skin and her jet-black hair; it was like snow, midnight, and blood. Elizabeth had always envied the way country outfits like that looked on Jade.

As she ran down stairs, Elizabeth saw what she was wearing and she headed towards her closet. Elizabeth came back carrying a pair of red checkered high-heel shoes. “Thanks, Elizabeth,” Jade muttered.

“Sure, anything. Oh! And everybody is going to go to Ms. Frelox’s school today. We would all like to know how much he knows or … really anything like that. James is going to drive.” Elizabeth said as Jade was munching on an energy bar and trying to guzzle a Gatorade at once. It wasn’t working out so well.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Jade threw the wrapper and the empty bottle in the garbage and rushed to the door. “Oh, Hey, Sean!” Jade said while trying to sound casual. She hopped her excitement wouldn’t show in her voice. In an instant Elizabeth was standing next to her, and with a small gesture that invited Sean in.

“Hi Jade!” Sean said. “Elizabeth” he said with a nod in her direction.

“Violet, Lucy, Jeremy, James, Emmett!” Jade called. I wish Brooklyn and Rae had come over, I had invited them, but they both had to do something with their mothers, anyway they said they would meet us there, Jade thought, well wondering what they did with their mothers is just going to drive me crazy because I won’t find an answer. Just then, the rest of Jade’s family bounded down the stairs.

Sean watched as they came down the stairs, his eyes lingered on Lucy. Jade realized that he had never met Lucy; at first he probably mistook her for Brooklyn.

“Oh, that’s right. You’ve never met Lucy, my younger sister” Jade said.

“Wow, you look a lot like Brooklyn, one of Jade’s friends” Sean replied. Lucy had that look on her face that Jade new well. Anybody who met Brooklyn and then Lucy saw that face. It was an expression that said “I’m glad I do, Brooklyn is so beautiful.”
“Well, let’s get this party started! Elizabeth called Ms. Frelox earlier to tell her she had a new kid to teach, and that all of us were gonna be there so we need the extra chairs.” James said. They all turned toward the garage to pile into Emmett’s and James’ Jeep. It was times like this when they were glad they got the four-door version. If James and Emmett didn’t come, which they hardly ever did, they would have gotten to take Elizabeth’s cherry red BWM M3 convertible, ugh Jade mentally sighed, I will envy that car forever.

“Hmm … I think we will need to take my car too.” Elizabeth said. Aw! Thanks so much Liz! Maybe she can read my mind? Thought Jade. In the Jeep it ended with James driving, Emmett in the passenger seat, and Jeremy and Lucy in the backseat. In the convertible it ended with Elizabeth driving, Violet in the passenger seat, and Sean and Jade in the backseat.

It was about forty-five minute drive till they got to Ms. Frelox’s “school”, which Jade had to explain wasn’t a school. “Ms. Frelox lives in the city. She owns a building that is squished between a small bakery and a furniture store. Her building is three stories tall. The first floor is actually a store, it sells various items of witchcraft; things like oromi stones, rilenki charms, and potions. Humans just believe its supersticious stuff. But, well … it’s not.” Jade said and shrugged. “The second floor is what we use for our school. The third floor is her home. Ms. Frelox always says that we are like her children, so we can always come and see her if we ever need help.”

“She sounds like a really nice person” Sean said. The next, forty or so minutes were spent with idle chit-chat, mainly things about Sean, before he had moved to Maine.

When they had arrived it looked as if most people were there already, including Brooklyn and Rae. Jade lead Sean while everybody else followed. They walked through the store that was so crammed you couldn’t even tell what color the shelves were. It was a small store, about the size of a normal living room. They stopped just before the elaborate, if not eccentric, giant wooden doors. They were too heavy for any normal human to move. Witches were about seven times faster and stronger than your average human being. I wonder if a body builder could move them? Or maybe a weight lifter? Jade thought. They were made out of some wood that looked mahogany, but wasn’t normally found in nature, it was extremely rare, and you could only find it when you knew what you were looking for, Jade had been told.

“Emmett, James, would you mind helping me?” Jade said. Jade didn’t have a hard time moving the doors, but it was easier for Emmett and James because they could lift pretty much anything and they were very tall. They scooted past her in the minimal space they had. Emmett, with a grunt, and James, with a sigh, pulled the door open as everybody took a few steps back to make room for the swinging door.

As the door opened they heard a faint echo of “There here!” floating down the stairs, it sounded like Kimberly shouting. Kimberly always loved me and Elizabeth so, but Violet had always scared her so much, Jade thought well trying to muffle a laugh.
“Hey! Will you guys grab some chairs from the storage room on your way up?” asked Ms. Frelox. So they all wandered toward the storage room that held everything from Jade’s favorite food, shrimp, to the chairs needed for the class. Thank god! Jade thought, there are still some chairs left that have padding on them. The other chairs were just cold metal. She rushed to the chair stack before anybody else had, and got one of the two last chairs with padding. Violet had gotten the last one. They had picked up extra chairs in case anybody else needed them too. James had grabbed Elizabeth’s and Lucy’s chair, and Emmett had grabbed Violet’s chair.

“Here, let me get that for you Jade” Sean said while taking the chair from her. Oh my god! What a gentleman! Jade thought.

“Oh! Thank you, Sean,” Jade murmured while handing him the chair, “That’s very nice of you.” Jade blushed when Sean had smiled at her. They turned towards the door of the storage closet to walk up the stairs, with shock they realized that everybody was staring at them. There was Anger in Violet’s eyes, motherly compassion in Elizabeth’s eyes, excitement in Lucy’s shinning eyes, James eyes were narrowed in distrust, as where Emmett’s, and Jeremy’s were calculating.

“Well, shall we?” Elizabeth said, interrupting Jade’s observations. Sean’s head slowly turned towards Elizabeth and saw that she was gesturing towards the stairs. Jade hurried past everybody and up the stairs with Sean on her heals. I love these stairs! Jade thought as she was marveling at the grand stair case. The banner is made of exactly the same wood that the door is made of. The actual stairs were made of marble.

“Wow!” was all that Sean said. They reached another elaborate wooden door. This time Jade and Sean moved the doors, because the staircase narrowed and now there wasn’t any room for Emmett and James to squeeze past. Sean was the first person to step through the door frame. He looked around, and saw about ten people sitting in a loose, half-circle, which resembled the crescent moon they all but worshipped. Ms. Frelox was standing in the middle of the elliptical shape.

“Wow, everybody came today” said James. There was Brooklyn, Rae, and Jasper; Jenna, Lillian, Jamie, and Jane; Kimberly, Christine, and Casey. So, with Elizabeth, James, Emmett, Jade, Violet, Jeremy, and Lucy, there were eighteen people.

“Well, hello! Sean I presume?” asked Ms. Frelox as she glided over to him and shock his hand. By then everybody had turned in their seats to see the rumored Urackle.

“Yes, ma’am, it’s nice to meet you” said Sean politely. Ms. Frelox then turned and walk back towards the middle of the “classroom” to get ready for class. Sean grabbed Jade’s hand while still holding the chairs. OH MY GOD! He’s holding my hand! I think my heart just leapt out of my rib cage. Jade thought. Sean lead her over to Rae and Brooklyn sat. He handed Jade her chair and she sat between him and Rae, with Brooklyn on the other side of Rae. Lucy bounded over to sit next to Brooklyn. James, Jeremy, and Emmet went to sit near Jasper. Elizabeth sat next to Christine. Violet sneered at Jade as she sat on the other side of Sean.

Just then the crescent turned into a full moon as everybody, except the Wealens’ or people talking to the Wealens’, shuffled towards Sean. In the end it was Jade, Violet, Rae, Brooklyn, Lucy, Jenna, Lillian, Jane, Kimberly, Casey, and Jamie that were sitting near him.
