(Mainly Shika's veiw of things.)
Chapter One - Old and gray
The family house was filled with laughter, the shrieking of children and their little feet running about the place. The voices of the adults yelling at the ones fighting or laughing at each other. Though it started out with a small family, it grew quickly and time flew by before he even noticed.
Nara Shikamaru, also now known as Grandpa Shika; was sitting in his usual spot in the lush green grass. He could always be found there, smiling up at the sky as the clouds slowly moved by recalling old memories long lost.
"Grandpa Shika! Grandpa Shika!" His dark, wise eyes shot up at the seven year old girl who was running up to him. "My dear Maeko." He cooded as the little red headed child rubbed her eyes, trying to hide the tears which had fallen. With a sniff she plopped down by her dear old grandfather who was once a grand ninja of the leaf village. Smileing a half crooked smile he looked back up at the sky. "They were picking on you again?" He asked softly. The little one reminded his so much of his love, who he had worked so hard for. "Mmmhmmm." She voiced as she grabbed his arm and hugged it. Taking in the comforting scent only her grandfather had, and rubbing her face against his long sleeve. "Don't mind them." He smiled down at her. She was so much like her. Oh so much, and he couldn't but help his dear grand daughter. "You know who you remind me of." He asked the little one who only shrugged and tightened her grip on him. He chuckled lightly, things had changed greatly threw the years. "Your grandmother." He smiled a full happy smile at the her. As if she was long gone from this world and not in the kitchen cooking up something for the children.
Maeko smiled back at her grandfather with a glint in her gray-blue eyes. "Tell me. Papa. How did you and grandma meet?" She asked as if she had never heard the story before. He smiled lightly and looked back to the sky trying to recall where it all started...
Chapter Two - The start of it all
"Well.." He started as he brushed a large hand over his head. Though even at his age with his gray hair, it was pulled back in the pineapple like pony tail which he had fashioned since he was a child. "I shall start right before we started dating." He smiled down at the little one who eyes looked very eager to hear their tale.
"She was laying there in the grass, her bright auburn hair sprawled out making a glowing red halo about her. Due to the noon sun shinning down. Lost in thought she was as she watched the shifting clouds. She was escaping from the hospital. Seeing as she was such a grand medical ninja she was needed for just about everything. Second behind Widow Sakura in medical demand." He said falling into the flash back of his watching his love. " What she was thinking I had no clue. But all I knew was she was in my spot. Doing what I had planned on doing. But I couldn't disturb her not yet at least. I stood over the angle for quite a while, she was very unaware of me. Sighing a hefty sigh. You know the ones that just make you simply feel better?" he asked and she nodded...
She sighed a hefty sigh, her chest sinking lower then it should have. "If only.." She voiced, her two mauve lips barely parting. At this point he couldn't help he, he wanted her so badly but the lack of knowledge on how she felt stopped him. "If only what?" He finally spoke up. A half crooked smile hanging on his young handsome face as he pulled out a cigarette and lighter. She shot up quickly, not to her feet but just sitting up; her now large gray-blue eyes fixed on him in a mix of horror and thankfulness. "Nothing." Was all she said as she quickly turned away from him, trying to hide the blush which had over came her pale features. "Oh come on now." He cooed as he, with out invite took a seat next to her in the lush green grass and lighting his cigarette. "You startled me." She spat trying to change the topic quickly which only made him smile at her in a half lazy way. With a huff she laid back in the grass total silence washing over them both. 'Come on Shika. At least try to find something out.' He tried to coax himself into breaking the now awkward silence. "I'm sorry?" He voiced after quite a few moments of silence and cloud gazing. "Didn't mean to. You just..." He paused and looked at her, she had her eyes close but he was more then sure she could feel his gaze. "You just looked so lost in thought." He squeezed it out of him. "Hrm." She huffed as she shot him a side ways glance. "I'm sure if you were stuck in a hospital day in and day out, and not as one of the patients you would feel the same." She spat. One thing about Emiko, she could be rash. He had learned this threw the years, though back then he didn't feel the way he does now about the short, hot tempered red head who had the curves any man would want. Well any man with his tastes would want. Slightly fluffy. "I am more then sure it is the same feeling after being out on missions all the time." He reflected her glare with a half smile and a lazy gaze her way. She only sighed again. He wounded what was going threw her female mind. Was she thinking about him? Hopefully, after all he couldn't get her out of his mind.
A half hour pasted as she laid next to each other watching the clouds thinking. About what? Well, he was stuck on her and she on him but neither knew. When he would look at her and she glanced at him he would look away and the other way around.
Anther few minuets went by before she both sat up at the sound of her name. "EMIKO!"
