I made a list of all of the serial bib numbers of ours that have to be merged with other records. I spent most of the rest of the day weeding magazines. (We decided it would be easier to weed first and therefore have fewer records to move!) Weeding involves consulting the list to see how far back we retain certain magazines (usually only 1-3 years except for certain ones), changing the item status to weeded, blacking out the barcode, and putting it on the donation magazine cart.
