The Journal of Risu the Troll
Bringing you riddles from the Riddle Room since page 6148 . . .
Ultimatum
By Sunday the 19th of April, unless significant progress has been made on the riddle, we will demand more feedback and, if that is not forthcoming, we will re-open the stage.

We all came to the Riddle Room because we enjoy the intellectual challenge of puzzling over riddles and the rewards which come with that. At the moment, that cannot happen. The puzzle is still more or less there, true enough, but there is no reward.

We are currently at a dead end. There were no guesses last week. Not a single one. There have been slow weeks in the past but one in which no guesses have been made at all is unprecedented, at least during my time in the Riddle Room. This riddle or, more precisely, your reluctance to do your job as riddler, has essentially brought the riddling part of the Riddle Room to a standstill.

There is no good reason why correct guesses at each line should not be confirmed, unless you are riddling for yourself, not us, and are attempting to artificially lengthen the period of time for which the riddle lasts. This has also never happened before. Hints and clues have been withheld but no other riddler has refused to confirm any correct guesses, even guesses for individual bits of riddles in which the answer is made up of many parts (each line or part being a clue to a letter or a word of the answer).

We do not want clues.
We do not want hints.

All we want is for you to do your job as riddler and tell us when we are right, not based around a deadline.

A number of people are quite annoyed and have already given up on the riddle because of this and because of the general inconsistency of the information we are given.

We would very much appreciate more feedback and more reward for our efforts but, if we do not get these and no progress can be made, the deadlock will end and the riddles will continue, with or without your co-operation.

Random has nicely summed up the inconsistency part of this:

"I was not. Thank you for informing me. I believe Gorn has tried to send me guesses though, so that's progress...In my opinion, guesses are progress, even if I can't read them yet."

prog⋅ress   /n. ˈprɒgrɛs, -rəs or, especially Brit., ˈproʊgrɛs; v. prəˈgrɛs/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [n. prog-res, -ruhs or, especially Brit., proh-gres; v. pruh-gres]
–noun
1. a movement toward a goal or to a further or higher stage: the progress of a student toward a degree.
...
3. advancement in general.
...
5. the development of an individual or society in a direction considered more beneficial than and superior to the previous level.

"Guesses=/=progress unless they bring us closer to the answer, and as you will not tell us if the guesses for individual lines are correct, only a correct guess for the entire riddle could be considered progress.

"Our problem with the riddle isn't that it's hard, Gem. Our problem is that you keep changing what we thought we knew. For an entire week we thought 'leg' for the first line was incorrect, leading to many wasted hours of considering other options for that line. Plus, we're tired of having to wait an entire week to see if our guesses for individual lines are correct or not. No other riddler that I know of has refused to acknowledge guesses, and the only reason you're doing that is so that the riddle can be artificially extended thereby artificially making it seem harder, and all because you think your riddles tend to be too easy. That is why we're all ready to give up on this riddle. We're annoyed, Gem."

Edit: "Darn. I just realized Gem doesn't read backlog. She'll never see this."
