I've always been all for the re-release of items. Recently, I've found out that I'm not as gung ho about the re-release as I thought.
I've always been pro re-release of DIs/MCs. A long time ago, Gaia was debating whether they'd allow people to Quest MCs when phase two of the Quest System was released
I'm all for it as long as people must work their butts off and invest a lot of time Questing the DIs/MCs. I'm talking about lotsss of time. Like, quests that would take about as much time as it would take to quest the item without going through the quest system. Also, it's now easier to explain my idea now that Gaia actually has the system. Any re-released MC through the Quest System would be soulbound to the account. It seems fair to me.
I do not agree with the recent re-release of event items.
Yes, I do believe that it is fair that everyone can have a chance at owning an awesome item. ...A rare chance. I'm still not for a mass re-release since that would really screw up our economy. It's already unsafe to make any long term investments. It's best to buy into EIs and pick the right moment to sell (usually before it's finished evolving).
Before we had remakes of the DT, I always thought it was unfair that our only devil tail cost millions upon millions of gold to buy. People who didn't even care about the 03 posterity would still have to pay all of that gold if they needed a devil shaped tail to complete their avatar. (I, for one, still love the DT. No remake has captured the beauty of its essence. The DT has a perfect shape. And, for example, the dark halo tail just looks awkward. u .u; )
From what I believe, no work went into getting a pair of chicky slippers in the first place. You logged in, found an egg, chose whether you wanted a pair of bunny or chicky slippers. That was it.
I'm also okay with the re-release of those slippers since the chance seems to be horribly rare and isn't affecting the overall price of the item too much.
Then there are the items that took time and effort to obtain in the first place.
The human and zombie labcoats from H2k4 are good examples. Those items were hard to obtain. You had to participate in an event between zombies and humans. My memory is hazy, so I'll have to back up my facts... But as I remember it, you had to post in threads and quickly attack the a member of the opposite team. Humans would shoot zombies, zombies would bite humans. Three shots and a zombie turned human. Three bites and a human turned zombie. In order to become human again, you'd have to buy a vial from labtechX for 100g. ...That's a lot of chump change put towards a coat.
Those labcoats hold memories for a lot of the people who participated in that event. I, for one, was against Gambino until the VonHelson sisters rolled around. XD; I was soo pro Gambino after that. Plus, I felt sorry for Gambino and really hoped that Gino would regain his memories, anyway..
I am okay with the re-release of items like the labcoats. I do not agree with how they've re-released the items. Their prices dropped to at least 1/5 what they were at. Apparently the market was flooded with too much supply and too few people understanding the meaning behind those labcoats.
I'd be more okay with the re-release if people had to work hard to get them, not just spend $1.50.
Same goes for my views on the grombie skins. I'd be horrified if they re-released the grombie skins from H2k6. I lived through that event. I barely survived that event. I still cringed for months afterward every time the event was mentioned. It was hell. So much so that the admins have not repeated an event just like it because it tore the site apart and had users yelling at one another.
...I swear I do not want to see those skins released again. That event lasted two days.. hmm maybe two and a half days. Most people who got the skins spent at least one solid day posting over and over in the hell that hell of an event and survived the site glitches that went with it. Back then, Gaia also lagged majorly during events so just the act of making a single post took a long time.
There is no way the admins could make an event that would mimic the hell of that one. I also never ever want to participate in an event like that again. That would be bad for the site. And since the event shouldn't be mimicked, those skins should also not be re-released.
Heck, I love the skins... but they aren't the greatest looking things either. XD; I wouldn't mind another release of another zombie skin. ;3
Sorry, this topic has just been on my mind for a while. I just don't think it's safe to invest in anything anymore. There's the buy low and sell high game, but you're not guaranteed that an item will gain price in time. It might spike for a bit, and then fall horribly low in price. After that, there's always the threat of your item being released again and it'll drop in price even more.
But then again, there are those instant millionaires who spent one or two bucks on a box in the cash shop and opened it up to get a crazy rare item.
Items cost more and more and it's not due to artificial inflation. People just have that much pure gold.
It's just really odd when one rare item gets rereleased so it drops a lot in price. And, at the same time, a brand new item is released in a one time chance that is worth ten times the amount of that old item that's being deflated.
Darn Gaia economy. Just when i think I get a grasp at understanding it, some new aspect changes it all.
Uhhh... I'll reread this later and make it make more sense.

Most of the journals will log the big updates and feelings of the times. I plan to look back on these in the future. Some large change affecting our lives now usually often turns into something we rarely think about.

I think the only way to invest in an item is with cash shop items, buying first gens and selling high when they get all their settings. I know you don't like that XD; but oh well.
Gaia is playing by a different set of cards.
