Pandris' photo album and collected curios
Also to bat around a few ideas for OCs, Avis, etc
stare Finding 'proper' drow pictures is an arduous path to take when the only material to be found is well-known and highly irregular for what I have in mind.

biggrin Anyhow, as those who know the game, Drow from Dungeons and Dragons are a..how shall I put it.. Sadistic.. yes, thats a good word for them.. living in the Underdark and for the vast majority have a nasty temper and prefer to dominate and destroy alien cultures as they believe Drow are superior to all other creatures that cannot overcome them with ease (Like an elder dragon)

Not to mention I dont much like the official art for D&D Drow, not at all as friendly an image I want to give upon inspection.

Some years after my interest in the Dark Elves started, only about five or six years ago in weekly after school D&D sessions, I came across a web-comic I think may serve as a better basis for the history I want to use.

With a culture similar to the D&D Drow yet as diverse as any above ground world, the works of the folks down at Drowtales.com has become a far grander tapestry from which I may draw my own ideas for my character's looks, attitude, history, and overall style.

While still a warring culture, with 9 Houses with similar yet different basis, I can finally get a great source of information I can readily give to others that doesn't immediately go to "Wait, so your drow isn't evil? Are you doing that to be like Drizzt?" And after about the hundredth time I finally went and found just who this Drizzt Do'Urden was, only to find out he was a huge deal because of his role in some books. Personally, I don't really care if hes the first thing that comes to mind when people hear about a non-evil aligned drow, all that does is support my choice to make one of my own. What does put a damper on it is how much Drow are being supported in newer editions of the player's handbook, and here I wanted an unusual character. sad

Back to the point, I did some looking through the Nine Clans of Drowtales' Moonless Age and found the clan Val'Beldrobbaen to be closely related to the shadows as well as having spiders closely tied to them in icon as well as Drider soldiers. Seeing as it's common practice to dye one's hair, I can use purple and finally have it not look totally out of place. But of course the black dye is too dark and gray is too light, so I made compromises with Gaia's items. whee

So just what background to go with is ..er.. murky, I like the spiders, stealth, and passive observance held as house standards. I abide by the standards of Observance and Stealth in game as long as I can until I am personally addressed, while working spiders into my avatar's item set. Its become like second nature to observe others and gain information through waiting and watching than asking directly anyways, so doing the same in games has me better suited as a party member instead of a leader- but I don't like leading so that works out well for me. sweatdrop
