Mom knows best: As a mom, Catherine was torn between her sympathy for Karen and her suspicions. Realizing Adam Esposito wasn't Karen's child, she was still sure a child had lived in Karen's home. With help from the whole team, she discovered that Karen, suffering from postpartum psychosis, poisoned her son and buried him in the backyard. Though he'd been dead four years, she'd fantasized that he was still alive. She convinced herself that Adam was Jesse -- even Photoshopping him into photographs with her. Brass couldn't understand how a mother could kill her child. Grissom thought of a passage from Euripides' "Medea," "I will slay my children without delaying long enough to hand them over to some more savage hand" (Grissom actually paraphrased a longer passage). Catherine realized that Karen hadn't wanted her son to grow up to be a soldier like her husband; so instead she killed him.
Grissom's secrets: We found out that Grissom's dad died when he was nine years old. His father had been a botanist and one day he'd come home from work, laid down on the couch and hadn't gotten up. And no one would tell Grissom why. Maybe this is what prompted Grissom to try to solve mysteries as a CSI. And maybe the early loss of his father is why he doesn't seem to be too close to other people. It's nice that he chose to confide in Catherine.
Uh-oh! Walter Gordon's daughter Kelly (from the infamous "Grave Danger" episode) got paroled and came to see Nick. She also showed up at the crime scene. Even though she said she was going to leave the past behind her, something tells me she's bad news for Nick. On the good-news side: The hideous pornstache has been shaved. "CSI" fans rejoice!
Smooth talker: Whether politely asking Connor Daly (who'd been convicted of having sex with a corpse - nice!) to back off, or gently coaxing little Adam to give a fingerprint and DNA sample, Warrick knew all the right things to say. In fact, he had such a way with Adam that maybe it's time for Tina and him to start a family.
Chasing a ghost: When they began to dig for Jesse's body, Sarah definitely said what the rest of us were thinking tonight, "On the one hand you really want to find the body. Give it respect, give it closure. On the other hand..." Indeed.
