Awakening the Dragons 2

When Broden had been kidnapped, he had been instantly frozen in a large chunk of ice. Just as quickly, his body had gone into hibernation--but not before he had seen the others frozen in ice as he was and he sent out telepathic instructions to Flan and hoped she had gotten them.

Unaware of time passing, Broden was suddenly awakened when his ice cage was obliterated by Nissa's android radioactive body slamming into it. Rearing up, Broden stretched his wings to their fullest and roared. Slamming back to the ground, Broden transformed into his human form as Xink uncovered the others and transformed into his human form.

"You got my message," Broden said to Flan while helping Nissa to her feet.

< Not all of it, > Flan replied. < A lot of it was garbled from distance and you were cut off after you told me about your dragon scale collection. >

"Was it really necessary for me to carry those?" Nissa asked, opening the compartment in her side to retrieve the same black bag that Flan had used and handed it over to Broden. "They are safe enough for Flan or n** to have carried."

"They would've been detected," Broden said, tucking the bag into an inside pocket of his coat. Looking about, he gestured to Xink, Varda, and Varden. "You three stand here in direct sight of Mom. Seeing you three will keep her calm then she can help me wake the others and keep THEM calm."

"You should probably wake Nogard last," Varden said.

"Indeed, Uncle," Broden agreed, walking over to Lizbeth's ice prison. Transforming into his dragon form again, Broden glanced back over his shoulder and privately communicated with Flan, < Has she taken him down? >

Cocking her head to the side, it was a minute or two before Flan replied. < Yes, but apparently it was the son wanting to take over the throne and needed us to overthrow him. The father's magic is weakened and the son has not taken up the Trident. Flipper says we should hurry though. >

Turning back to Lizbeth's ice prison, Broden breathed blue flames over the ice. In moments, it began to crack as Lizbeth woke up from her own hibernation. Like Broden, when she was free, Lizbeth rose into the air on her hind legs and roared.

"Mom!" Broden said, grabbing her forelegs as she attempted to take off. "Wait a minute!"

Her anger passing, for the moment, Lizbeth's eyes cleared as she realized that not only was her son speaking to her, but her twin siblings and grandson were standing in front of her. Taking a steadying breath, Lizbeth turned to Broden, "Yes, but there's no time to explain. We need to wake the others and then go help grandmother."

"Right," Lizbeth replied.

To be continued...
