I just finished reading "The Heart of Darkness" as the title of this entry might suggest. I just wanted to enter another journal entry like the previous one. biggrin
"The Heart of Darkness" was about one man's adventure into the very heart of Africa's jungles. It was a little bit confusing in the beginning because it starts out with some sailors on a ship and then one of them (Marlow) starts telling the story that the book is actually trying to tell. biggrin All in all, it was a interesting story, but it always seemed to promise more around the next bend and never deliver. The real soul of this book is in the last few pages when the story-teller gets to reflect on the life changing events that he had just recounted to everyone.
I would give this book a 3/5. It is a great story, but it is really ignorant of other cultures and females in general. In fact, he seemed to be down on anything that was not the same as he was. I don't know if that was the author speaking or him speaking as a charcter, but it was very stupid and rude. I don't think that he did a good job when it came to geographical discription, but that might just be my lack of knowledge when it comes to England and Africa.
My verdict? Read it for the last few pages, it is worth it. The insights that are provided are worth the wait. This is a very deep book when it comes to it's point (though it is a bit dark).
