The Journal Of Crow Bird
The life and undeath of Crow Bird.
Reawakening
Chapter Two: Reawakening
I was falling. Just falling. No glowing light at the end of a tunnel. Hell, there wasn’t even a tunnel. Just darkness.
Then I was lying on the ground. I couldn’t move. I tried, but I couldn’t. Then the darkness began to clear.
As I was lying there, I realized my eyes were opened, and I was seeing into the darkness of the nighttime. I was also laying face down with my cheek to the hard earth. I was staring into a forest of grass, and my eyes wouldn’t move.
Images of my friends appeared in my mind as I was lying there. Sal’ Riddle was first. She had wild hair, and was laughing. Her eyes had that same gleam of animal like madness hidden in her joy. Then was Gregory, his red hair as fiery as it was when he was still “alive”. I can imagine him still staring at the sky. Then there was Sara Potter. Her face was still shrouded by that large hood on her cloak. She was working on another revolutionary potion. Perhaps it was to save me? Then Sage Fagan. His eyes showing some unknown hurt as he tried to laugh with Sal’. He would never forgive himself. And then there was Raven. Poor Raven. Good bye, Avis, you should never have tried to save me. If I wasn’t shocked from my strange teleportation here, I would have cried for you [of course, I still thought it was the shock that stopped me from crying].
But why am I not with you? I thought.
The question left with the hours, and light was cast upon the ant infested ground. One crawled into my eye. I didn’t feel it. Then a strange occurrence started happening. It was familiar, yet my mind wouldn’t recognize it. Then I realized what was happening.
I was hearing. Birds were chirping. It was beautiful. But something was off. It was like the pitch was different.
More hours passed and different functions began to return to my body. I began to feel again in my limbs. My arms began to itch. And my legs. And my eye[special thanks to that god damned ant]. So, I tried to scratch my eye.
That’s when I first moved.
Nothing dramatic, just a twitch of the fingers, but it was still movement. So I kept trying to move. I soon could ball my right hand into a fist. The whole day I focused on moving every limb apart of my body.
Time passed, and I could move every part of my body [to an extent]. I was very stiff and sore, and I had limited flexibility in my pale fingers, but considering the fact that I thought I couldn’t be able move [or think, for that fact] was cause for celebration. I started to wonder why I was still alive. That knife went into my stomach after all. Wasn’t that lethal? I decided to distract myself with a task that was once simple, but now would have to be undeniably difficult considering my inflexibility.
I tried to stand.
And I failed miserably. It took nearly all my strength just to try to lift my upper torso off the ground. After many half push-ups and face plants into the ground, I managed to put my knee under my body to support myself. Then the other. I focused all my strength as I tried to lift my upper body up off the ground. I ended up falling backwards. After many tries and flops onto the ground, I managed to get my right foot flat on the ground. I pushed myself slowly off the ground. For a few seconds, I thought I was going to stand, but than I abruptly fell to the side. So, you can imagine this happening until the sun began to sink. Then I managed to rise up again, and, this time, not collapse.
As I stood on my unsteady feet, I looked down the hill I was on. I was at the edge of a forest. The forest surrounded a little town at the bottom of the hill. That’s when I decided to take my first steps.
